FT Folks, I've been asked to help develop a non-profit FT Conference/Job Fair in Hangzhou, at Zhejiang U. for ChinaTEFL, on May 1 and 2. They'll also be inviting FAOs and Chinese teachers of English.

We'll be having Workshops/Demonstrations/Discussion Sessions,
as well as tours of West Lake, and social events in the evenings.

We'd welcome any constructive input from y'all, posted on this Thread

For further INFO, EMail me.

Thanks

It could be fun if a few Davesters could meet up at events like this - discussing FT'ing face to face - proving actual human entities existed behind those anonymous keyboards!!!!!

I have a couple of ideas for them.... I believe they are reasonable.

1, Ask the FAOs to set minimum FT wages of at least 7000 plus housing and airfare in all the small towns and 12000 plus housing and airfare in the cities (negotiable of course).

2, Reimburse all applicants their travel expenses to-from Hangzhou for the job fair when they walk in the door to a reasonable amount (eg, 3000 kuai). Even with the shorter holiday it will still cost more than normal to get there and back.

Well I suppose it's up to to the people attending to set their own agendas. You want to act fish - you want to sniff the bait - you want to get caught - then that's your own business.
But then again, if you want to meet up with other FT's, talk EFL, just socialize and indeed say balls to all the recruiting stuff - well it don't matter who organizes this thing.
However what happens to you at any Ft conference/job fair does depend on what kinda person you are. If you're so weak willed, and fear that by attending you'll be easy recruiter meat ("ohhhh lordy I just felt I had to say yes to that 2000/month/60 hours/week job - the man wouldn't take no for an answer") - well I dont suppose any FT get together would be a safe place for you Laughing Laughing Laughing

I suppose if FT's really want to show a common stance on the subject of standards - then getting face to face to voice opinion and discuss technique seems a pretty good way of going about this task.

biggest problem with holding any FT day in China is the sheer size of the country. Put on to that the decision to hold this do during the May holiday rush - have to admit that just makes the traveling thing even more of a pain.

Gotta laugh again!!! This lady must be some dragon - she going to dominate the whole weekend? Do FT's have to ask for permission before they open their mouths Laughing Laughing Laughing

My Ideas for any FT conference - lots of workshops and public discussion Idea
