I'm currently teaching in Tomsk, an exciting and vibrant student town located about 250km from Novosibirsk. I'm planning to move on next academic year, and for that reason the school is looking for a native speaker (preferably with TESOL qualifications) to begin in September.
Life in Tomsk is always fun, being home to a large population of students (there are six universities located here). If you so wish, you will find it easy to supplement your income with private students. There aren't too many native speakers living here (I've met two in the last six months...) and living here is a great oppportunity to experience a rather different part of Russia.
If you're interested, send me a PM and I'd be more than happy to supply further information. |

I have very fond memories of the three winters I taught in Tomsk. I second the OPs opinion of the place.
The climate can be compared to what you might find in Edmonton and the people were really nice. Siberians are a different breed of cat than european Russians as they will tell you themselves. Its kind of like comparing Montana to New York city.
I would hesitate to go if I had no Russian, but I know people who have done just that and gotten along very well. That tells you a lot about the people who live there, I think. |

I would love to hear more about an opening in Tomsk. I hope Im not too late. Sorry I cant send a pm yet, just registered. I have lived in Russia before, speak Russian fluently, and agree that non-European Russia is where it's at (I lived in the Ural region for a couple years). I have BA in both History and Russian and just received my TESL certificate a week ago through Oxford Seminars. Anyway, hopefully now that I've posted I can send you a pm. |

I just spoke with my friend at the Pedagogical University, English department and she said she would be interested in having a native speaker on board. If you would like her name send me a private message.
The pay would not be great, but if you are willing to live like a Russian, I think you would enjoy it. |

Tomsk is a cool city. I live in Novosibirsk and have been there a couple times to visit. It has the atmosphere of a smaller town (not so fast like in NSK) but there's also a lot of young people and nightlife. I don't know what teaching is like there but as far as Siberian cities go it's one of the best I've seen. |
