Hi everyone,
I read a job post a week or two that sounded pretty good. The package looked great, and then I realized that one of the requirements of the job was...
"USD $2,650 deposit:
This deposit must be paid upon matriculation into the program and will be returned in full upon successful completion of the program. This deposit holds your place in the program, goes toward your flights, and completely covers the costs of our upgraded medical coverage (below)."
To me, this sounded unusual. And it's A LOT of money. Has anyone here done this program in Beijing, or does anyone know of Culture Gateway?
Thanks! |

I was just saying, that'd be a lot of money to lose should the organization turn out to be a scam! |

I agree, it is a lot of money! I can't see the attraction of these programmes. Why pay someone to find you a job, when esl teaching jobs in China seem to fall off trees? In my city the teachers' college does not even seem to require a BA degree for its foreign teachers. If you get a Uni or public school job in China, pretty much everything is taken care of for you - visa, accommodation, a foreign affairs office to help you in times of need. Ok, you are bound to face unexpected situations, but that is one of the joys of experiencing a new culture.
Suggest you just dive in , and apply for a job on one of the recruitment sites. |
