An ambitious teacher-friend of mine has started teaching English in Costa Rica on his own television and radio programs. He also has his own webpage. (I don't think I will be permitted to mention it here, will I?)
Anyhow, does anyone know anyone who has done something similar in another country?

I never got to met these guys in person, but there was a TV show on NHK back in 1996 when I was in Japan. AND around 2000 I recieved a resume from a guy who had been, I think it was "Captin Mike" of the English Boat on I believe it was Polish television. I really wanted to hire him just because I wanted to talk about that over a beer. |

I have appeared on the show as a guest twice so far. It's really interesting. The show is both educational and entertaining. The Costa Rican government has declared recently that it intends to transform the country into a bilingual one within a few years. And my friend saw English classes on TV and radio as a way to get English lessons out to those who cannot afford them or live in remote areas.
The UHF TV station that is broadcasting the show has received an incredible response from viewers about the show, so much so that after only about five months on the air, the station is already running the show 11 times per week! (6 shows are live, 5 are repeats.) And the website is getting a lot of hits as well. |

I had a slot on Slovak radio a while back. Nothing much, just 3 minutes a month in a cultural prog. to air a foreigner's impressions of the country. Money was a joke, about 10 dollars a prog. and I think there was an audience of about 3 including the soundman, but it was fun! |

I have heard that there is a popular TV show for English students in China. Does anyone have more info on this? |
