Worlds tallest tower to have gravity-free terrace
1 April, 2008
By Dan Stewart
"Plans to build 5780m Dubai skyscraper so visitors can experience weightlessness
The worlds tallest tower is to have a terrace on the highest floor where guests can enjoy greatly reduced levels of gravity.
The Foster + Partners-designed Durj al-Fulsdi, currently under construction in Dubai, will stretch more than 5km into the air, and the engineers behind the scheme hope to build an outdoor terrace on the 887th floor."
Workers on the 5780m tower will be trained at NASA to undergo the huge extremes of pressure during its construction.
Construction on the 25bn project will begin in earnest next month, with completion scheduled for May 2009."

Well, I think I will plan my holiday in 2009 and go visit this 'space' tower in Dubai and experience weightlessness with my friends the English teachers of UAE!
Uncle Scot, are you coming with me or not? |

The "Al-Fusdi" was a nice touch.
007, you're a day too late. |

I thought there were many areas of Duabi which had mini pockets which were gravity free....or something free anyway.
Most days in one papar or another one reads embedded on page 6 usually, about deaths from something falling on construction workers or workers falling from some construction. |

|
On my way to Mirbhat in Oman, I was shown from a distance, the magnetic mountain.
We didn't have time to visit it.
Is it really true that a car gets dragged up the mountain on its own by some magnetic (or other) force? Or is it another joke, April Fool joke or otherwise?
Any first-hand experiences? Duffy, maybe?
Regards,
Lall. |

I don't get it.. I've been nearly 6k meters up before and I didn't feel any decrease in gravity, though I DID feel a little lightheaded until I started chewin the coca leaves |

It never fails to amaze me that you have construction workers strapping themselves to a harness and dangling a few hundred metres from the ground.
But then, crowding into an aluminium tube with two men/women (PC at its best, eh?) at the helm at 30,000 ft. is no different, I guess. Probably less safer, really. |
