Hey,

With the work permit, can you leave and re-enter vietnam? Lets say if i wanted to go to cambodia for a weeks holiday or something.

Also something i can't ask my potential employer but maybe you can help me with.
Is the work permit exclusive? If i sign up and dont get the guaranteed hours for some reason, or if i want to work part time somewhere else, am i binded contractually to the place i sign for or can i work in other places?

Any info would be greatly appreciated
Thanks guys
cheers : )

The work permit is different from your visa. You still need a visa if you have a work permit. So, if you want to leave and return on your current visa you need to get a multi-entry visa. This costs more but is very easy to do.

A current teacher at the school I work, did leave the school that had organized and paid for his visa. They are/were not happy about it. What has transpired? Nothing. I'm not sure what the school can do, other than ask for a reimbursement of the visa costs.

Thanks for the info! I'll have to extend/upgrade my visa when I get there or ask the school to help me.

So what about working for different schools?... Any news on this?

I think you're worrying too much. When you get here and see how chaotic everything is, you'll have other things to worry about.

You are worrying a bit much, especially as many (most) teachers have worked in VN for years w/o any work permit at all. The visa is totally easy to get and you shouldn't worry about that at all.

But of course the WP is a key doc. What you will actually do, after receiving your WP, is use the WP to get a Residence Permit, which then replaces your visa. You get to go through the fast lane at the airport, and have multiple entries.

The length of your Residence Permit is tied to the length of your contract, as is the WP.

I personally had a three year WP and a three year Residence Permit (as did my wife and child).

Good luck with the chaos!!

Hey

Yeah you're right ive been brewing it over too much, I suppose anything is stressful if you let it to be, frame of mind as they say.

You're right its crazy here, moped motorcyle mayhem, once ive spoken with the school, ill make the neccesary adjustments to the visa!

Thanks for your replies.

I have never heard of English language teachers obtaining temporary residence cards who work for English language schools. Teachers who work for international schools (BIS, IGS) may obtain them and foreigners working for companies but it takes a lot of paperwork. Unfortunately, there is no longer a fast lane for investors/temp resid. permit at the new international airport.
