Qatar University is hiring around 35 to 40 EFL teachers for 08/2008.

Read the previous posts before applying, otherwise you will find yourself in a total mess.

Been warned.

Not necessarily. A proportion of past and present employees were/are also likely as satisfied with QU as they were with the HCT and other Gulf institutes. Those teachers with, loosely speaking, an 'abrasive' personality, a reactionary approach and personality issues tend to have a conflictual time in most Gulf institutes. Others can manage to work out their time relatively trouble-free.

Right on bje Very Happy
I just warned potential employees about the place since QU does not deserve them Laughing . But it is suggested that a poster's attitude & character leaves much to desire (Arrogance/multiple personality disorder/ complex of inferiority and the list goes on.

It appears that in this forum, help is not needed for the "potential victims" as it seems that a very few posters always tend to fix the bad institutions' reputations. Who are these posters anyways?

I need a balanced view from others and if I am wrong, I give up.

I'm really not sure what you're trying to say. Are you teaching in SE Asia now?

May be taking a creative writing course would help you to improve your reading skills buddy Embarassed .

Are you teaching in SE Asia now?[/quote]

Why are you interested in my occupation and location Cool ?

No, you missed this one. I am presently in Candy City in a nice resort sipping a cold Miller, counting the stars, surfing Dave's on my brand new wireless laptop and LOL at your message.

Did I answer your question?

Get back to business and let's reveal the reality on the ground at Qatar University/ Foundation Program "fire to hire" policy. Very Happy

May be I am posting on behalf of the person you think.

No, you are indeed the person I think. They're still waiting for you to show up for your 'disciplinary hearing' at your previous job in the UAE.

I find it interesting the people who are not at QU feel that they have the right to make inaccurate negative (and tiresomely repetitious) accusations about a place 'for a friend' while insisting that others don't have the right to do the same with more accurate and more positive information which they have learned from friends currently teaching there. Rolling Eyes

Yes, QU is hiring many teachers this year. But, it is not because they fired such a large number (a normal percentage for a department of this size in the Gulf), but because the department is expanding. Not to mention that your number is hugely inflated... it is nearly half of the number you suggest.

Should people look at the threads here? Of course. It is good to know as many facts as you can. QU is not employment nirvana where you will want to spend the rest of your career. But it is far from the worst employer in the gulf and will be fine for a contract or two if you have realistic expectations. The pay and benefits are decent and dependable.

I have read a lot of negative things here about various employers in the Middle East. After some careful thought, it occurs to me that I am in the same/similar situation where I am. I have been working on a semester by semester basis for peanuts, no job security, sometimes no health insurance if I don't make full time status....adjuncts and temporaries are not treated very well sometimes. It's part of life. Hey, I'm lucky to have a job at all here. A lot of people don't! I have decided that if I must suffer, I'd much rather make double or triple the money PLUS have my housing and medical provided PLUS see the world (or at least part of it) PLUS see it with my hubby. It's a sacrifice I'm willing to make. The only drawback will be leaving my grandchildren. However, another PLUS is VACATION! And, it doesn't have to be forever.
Thanks for your balanced contributions on the forum, VS.
