Yes, I tried doing a search first, but came up with either "No" results or confusing results. They use what they say is a Singapore curriculum. Are they related in anyway to SIS?
Thanks |

Don't think this one has anything to do with SIS but I confess that until they advertised I'd never heard of them. I suspect - pls someone tell me if I'm wrong - that the 'International' part of the name is poetic license.
Edit: I imagine the 'Great Crystal' is probably a translation of something like 'Permata Jaya' which doesn't sound half as daft in Bahasa Indo as it does in English. |

Thanks for your response.
Well if you look at their website, it does seem that the international may be poetic license. However, if their program is completely in English I guess that counts. Actually I don't know if that is the case or not but simply the way they present themselves. Hence why I am looking for someone who really knows. Again thanks for your response. |

"Great Crystal International School" is an example of Indonesian business naming at its finest-
appeal to local prejudices (and often ethnic ones) by using a name that refers to China (or Singapore, Australia, America etc);
throw in the word "Internatiional" even though you are breaking the law by doing so as you are only a National Plus registered (or not) school.
Eg free give away names for anyone wanting to start one:
Rajeev Gandhi International School
Chairman Mao's International School of Business and English
Orchard Road International Christian School
The Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints International Madrassah
....
Is there any reason you ask if it is related to SIS? (Not, so far as I know) |

It depends what you mean by 'international'. Many nat+ schools run international & national curricula side by side, therefore offering two or more pathways to Higher Education. English First has a HQ in Sweden and branches positioned globally, therefore it is also considered 'international'.
What criteria must a school meet to be 'international' in your book (without breaking any laws)? |

Like it or not, "International School" is a legal category and to use the term"International" in your school's name, or tell people you are one, you must be so registered with the Indonesian Department of Education (DEPDIKNAS). From memory, there are only about 45 "International Schools" in the whole of Indonesia (not all have "International" in their name. The status carries certain rights and obligations eg students don't have to do the National exams, but there is a cap on how many Indonesians can attend.
Many non "International Schools" do offer elements of an International education, some very well; but they are still national (ie controlled by local regulations) schools and their students still have to study certain prescribed subjects and sit the national examinations. |

Quite right. We still have the national curriculum, which is at odds with the IBO. It seems that the extortionate price the school must pay to 'free' itself from this inconvenience is really too much. It is a pity that the IBO, after charging their own extortionate fees, doesn't provide more support for schools locked into this impossible situation. |

So but nobody actually knows about this school?
I've got the contract & I'm heading there next month...
For better or worse, I'm married to myself. |
