Are teachers expected to dress in business attire in Japan, Korea, and Thailand? I think I remember seeing a TV show about english teachers in Japan, and the women were wearing business suits with pantyhose and heels. Is this the kind of thing that teachers are expected to wear, or can they get away with "business casual"? Do women have to wear skirts/dresses and heels? |

More street casual, in China and Korea, they wore tshirts and jeans with sneakers. |

Pretty general question "teaching in Asia". College profs, HS teachers, kindergarten teachers, and conversation school instructors may all have different dress codes based on the employer and the needs.
Plan ahead to wear what is appropriate. Ask for the specific type of job you are seeking. Expect to wear business attire unless it is obvious (kindergarten) that this would be inappropriate. |

There are few places that would make you wear a suit. If you are cleanly dressed without be indecent to their eyes then it is unlikely that anything will be said. In over twelve years of teaching here in Asia I am yet to be told to wear a suit. Oh, and yes I have been in the big money attimes. |
