I lived for many years a few miles away from the Framingham State College outside of Boston and even had an exhibition at their gallery. They are more like a community college and I was somewhat impressed with their organization, as the art department was very well organizaed. My oldest friend also attended there and spoke well of the school. He was also in the art department.
So, I don`t know how much of an endorsement that is but I do know that so many of the colleges in Boston are top notch. Both MIT, Harvard, Brandeis and Boston College are feeding their graduates to their workplace, so the general level of education is exceedingly high in eastern Massachusetts. I lived in that community for 15 and was amazed by the sheer numbers of smarty pants and pointy heads walking around. I don`t think you could go wrong with FSC.
You might also look into the long distance programs of Iowa State College where I took a long distance course in archaelogy 8 years ago. Again, I was extremely impressed with that program. Iowa has one of the top three creative writing programs in the nation.
Also, UPenn had a very vigourous long distance program. |

[quote="dixie"]I am thinking of either doing one in education, or linguistics (because I plan on staying here for quite sometime, I thought the linguistics might help more with EFL teaching) [quote]
Dixie, I'm working towards an MA in Applied Linguistics and keeping a pretty close eye on the job market while I'm at it to reassure myself that all this expense and hard work will be worth it in the long run. All the jobs I've seen advertised since embarking on this journey have specified 'MA TEFL or Applied Linguistics' so I think that's your answer.
The British distance learning programmes I investigated were ridiculously expensive if you're overseas (but I did only investigate the more prestigous universities here) but I'm sure there must be something suitable out there- in the end I chose to come home and study. If you win the lotto in the meantime and want details of courses here just ask.
Good luck finding a course |

| My only problem with Framingham State College... is that they haven't returned my phone calls. A month and a half ago I contacted them and left several messages requesting that they get back to me about this exact program... but I heard nothing. If someone has received additional information about the MA in question... PM me and I'll give you my email address so you can forward me what you've got. |
