My first teaching job is going to be a summer camp through Aston. A lot of people on many forums complain that summer camps are hectic, stressful, and leave you very tired.
I was hoping to learn some Chinese when I go to China even if I'm teaching a summer camp. Will that be possible? |

You are funny as Chinese is a language that takes considerable time to learn so sure you can start learning but don't expect headway in so short a time.
If it is the start of your teaching career then you should find out if they have a course for you to teach with otherwise you could find yourself in difficulties. The trouble with a summer camp generally is that you see the same students everyday so you need lots of stuff ready for your classes. |

Yep. I'm just hoping to learn more Chinese than if I stayed at home in Canada those two months with a private tutor and library books studying in the evening. I do have a decent environment to learn Chinese here in Canada. My girlfriend is Mongolian-Chinese and there are other people to practice with.
Thanks for the other tip too!
After the summer camp ends I'm heading to Korea for the school year to study and learn Korean. Then back to China again the next summer to work a camp. I've made it my goal to learn both Mandarin and Korean. Of course, I also like teaching and linguistics in general. I've been an ESL volunteer for a couple years. |
