Hi All,
I have been here in Abu Dhabi for 5 weeks, and have been looking for a job for the last three weeks to no real avail.
I have offers, all starting in September. The problem is, I need something NOW!!!
Just wondering how long it took you guys to find something here or in the UAE in general...thinking I may go back to Sydney if something does not come along soon
Kind thanks! |

I've never shown up in the UAE w/o a job, though I did do a job search one year in an attempt to find a different contract for the year that followed. What are your qualifications and what sort of position are you looking for (sorry...i know we may have asked this on another thread, but i don't recall).
I really wouldn't expect any employment between now and the end of the year unless someone goes on maternity leave or does a runner...they're so close to the end of the year now. |

Some of the schools require supply teachers. You could put your CV in. They won't give you accommodation however and you wouldn't be able to do it without sponsorship. |

Hi Judy...
I'm sorry, I can't be of any help at all as I'm not yet in the UAE. I am curious, though, if you don't mind my asking, as to the kinds of offers you've received based on your experience and qualifications.
Good luck...hope you find something soon!

Hello Judy,
You've turned up just as everybody is busy planning their summer vacations Everyone I know is off by the 3rd week in June or even earlier if they can manage it. Your only hope is to try and pick up vacation employment. The British Council run summer school classes and I think Al Ain universitydo as well. Try and hang on until September if you possibly can. Good Luck to you. |

Thanks for the advice
The offers have been fairly dismal.
Language institutes and nurseries - anywhere from 3000AED to 9000AED(max).

There are countries where it's good strategy to shop for jobs in country. I don't think this is one of them.
From initial application to interview to contract offer, I thought my process was pretty fast - five weeks? - but like almost everyone I know here, I did it from outside the country.
Good luck-! |
