Come on now, if the homeland-made movie prospects in some English-speaking countries were as dismal as the ones in Japan, people in those countries would probably become more willing to read their movies.

I'm not saying all Japanese movies are bad; I usually see 1 or 2 a year that I really like (liked "Tokyo Tower" last year and "Daremo Shiranai" a couple of years ago - I even went to the cinemas to see Tokyo Tower). Maybe, I'm narrow-minded. But, most of my Japanese friends, some of whom are in love with their own country and its culture, absolutely abhor most Japanese movies.

But, then again, Kurosawa movies were initially more popular in foreign countries, and were panned in Japan.

Most (not all) of my students also told me that they didn't like Japanese movies. Most of them had never even seen a Kurosawa (or Ozu) movie and thought I was one of those strange gaijin if I expressed interest in Japanese cinema. I agree that there are relatively few good Japanese movies these days. How many people on this board are interested in seeing the latest Japanese movies?

The death was what I was lamenting, as I didn't find the storyline that interesting Confused .

Guy finds money after desert shootout. Decides to go back and get the drugs too. Almost gets killed when he trys to get the drugs. One of the drug dealers now not only wants money but revenge. And Tommy Lee gets to pick up the pieces of dead bodies as he trails behind and him and his friends comment how things have changed. Yada yada, sorry, not quite enough twists for my taste.

Now the comments on the cinematopgraphy, yes this is a movie better suited to a big screen. That alone won't pull me in to see a movie twice.

A few of the lines I liked, but not enough to start wishing the writers' strike wouldn't happen again Rolling Eyes .
