In the last few weeks, I have noticed a surge in older busses being used on the Paseo de Reforma bus routes. Has anyone else noticed anything similar or any changes on their bus routes?
I suspect that like everything else in life these changes would be the result of political payoffs to precinct captains and politicians in the various colonias and delegations. You play ball with city hall and you get better buses for your district. Make trouble and watch out, your busses now have no shocks.

Sorry, this isn't really responsive to your question.

With some frequency I've used the peseros to get to and from home and school in D.F. One or two days I was floored by stepping onto one that looks like it came from a showroom with nice seats, curtains, etc.

I can't figure out the pesero system at all, except a few routes by trial and error, and I really wish someone would start a cooperative route map on the internet.

A friend that came here told me that it would really be a great help if he could just find a map like the ones they have in places like San Francisco and New York... I just busted out laughing and he asked me what was so funny. I told him "Good luck on finding a map, even native Chilangoes don't know where all the routes are and where they go, I don't think anybody does"

The DF gov. did impound and destroy over 100 micro buses about a month ago.

It's another great part of living in Mexico City to have one of the best, most advanced, safest and cleanest fleet of public buses in the world! Seriously, the Metro Bus is being expanded and the Metro system as well.
What about the new suburban train? It's almost finished and it will carry people from Cuatitlan-Izcalli to Buanavista Metro station near downtown in only 23 minutes... the same trip easily takes up to two hours by bus and Metro.

Au contraire mon frere, I have noticed a number of new buses traveling down Reforma, some of them bigger than usual, with better shocks, and sometimes costing 3.5 pesos instead of the usual 2.5. I've also seen (and taken) buses heading to the Centro Histrico that go all the way to the Zcalo!

Can't believe a bus in SLP costs 5 pesos! Twice as much as in Mexico City. And they keep going up, 2.5 pesos in the 3 years I've been here.

Thats one of the beautiful things about this city - cheap, and decent public transport.

Apparently the pesero drivers here are no happy, as they have no had a raise for several years (even though the metrobus just went up one peso).

January 2004. Imagine if you hadn't had a raise for nearly 5 years, while your expenses (gasoline) went up steadily, not to mention the cost of living.
