as it is with Japan, people come and go. A couple good people left, which means that I drink less. I tend to drink with my girlfriend or boss or other teachers.
In July we saw kabuki in Tokyo, then went to Ginza to eat and drink with teachers. At Yokohama we were going to change trains but Mr. Kubo wanted us to 'have one for the road`. That beer was the size of three beers. Needless to say that was not my last that day. Those guys drink like it was a sport. Mr. Kubo left both his wallets there: one has money and the other credit cards. He was lucky the manager found them.

What I don`t like is all the sake. I just drank it to be nice. They think you are rude to refuse but I guess I just have to turn the glass over

I too learned through the Bitter experience (....Sorry Scot) and then I moved on to Bitter Shandy and then to Light and Bitter and occasionally Mild and Bitter (here I am showing my age 'cos you can't get much Mild anymore) I finally settled on Draught Guinness after a spell in Ireland that took the Punts from my pocket and put the pounds on my waistline.
I do like to "taste" from time to time, especially a good cognac or a fine glass of poteen/moonshine/eau de vie/ grappa but that is to appreciate the art of the distiller, there are some wonderful artisans in the world. the best bit is I can now, after years of abuse, stop after the first taste... It is enough. That took me one hell of a long time to learn.

The poll result so far is just slightly in favor of less frequent drinking. Keep voting.

Haven't had a drink in 4 years and hope to go another 40. I was a beer man and if I get the urge on a hot summer day, I go for a "near beer". Good enough for me.

After a long crazy day spent with Turkish teens, I sure could go for a pint of cold dark beer right now....yummm. I don't drink much- sometimes a beer or glass of wine after work, maybe a few more on a weekend night. I don't like getting drunk and have no desire to bring on a hangover. I'm getting too old for it maybe (at 29??). After a few drinks, it all feels boring and redundant. Rolling Eyes

Too bad the poll couldn't have somehow indicated the ages of those who responded as well. It might be interesting to see what age group most of the more frequent drinkers are - and, conversely, how old the abstainers ( or nearly so ) are, too. My suspicion is that you'd find more two-fisted drinkers among the more youthful and more ( near ) teetotalers among the older folk.
Regards,
John

Dear Shonai Ben,
" . . . and not considered all that young anymore. "

Hmm, by whom? Probably not by me. These days. I consider dirt to be young.

John

Dear Corey,
" Everything in modeation. "

Well, yes - except, of course, moderation itself.

John

I used to have a beer or two a day, but I started getting wicked migraines a couple of months ago. The doctor recommended cutting out beer and coffee. Since I did so I haven't had any more headaches.

I'd love to have a nice cold beer on a hot day - but then i think about the last migraine headache I had and change my mind. Crying or Very sad

Yeah, my drinking has been in inverse proportion to my age.

Nowadays, its two beers on Friday so I have Saturday and Sunday to recover (told you I'm old).

New thread: Best Native Drink:

The Giants Award goes to ............. Thoongba!!!!

To prepare: take millet and boil it. Then put some yeast on top, mix it up and leave in a warm, dark place for a week or two. To drink, put the fermented millet into a bamboo cylinder and pour boiling hot water over it. Wait a minute... now insert a straw with a filter at the end and sip. As the water level goes down, pour in more boiling water untill all the alcohol is gone. Order another.

Served in the mountains of North-Eastern Nepal.

The best part is that, with all the water you are drinking, NO HANGOVER!
