My boyfriend and I have been offered contracts in Beijing and Jinan. The schools are Aston in Jinan and Beijing Haidan Foreign Language Experimental School. Has anyone ever taught at either of these schools or knows anything about either of them? Please help me decide!

hi Anjelica,

I had a job offer from Haidian as well. I was torn between this school and another. I contacted [email protected] a former teacher and he had very good things to say about the school. At the time the school had given me a list of current and former teachers. If you don't have that list, pm and I will send it to you.

My decision not to go with Haidian was based on my 9-year old daughter. I had enrolled her in an intl. school and Haidian was just too far from her school.

Good luck
Joanne

I have a list of former teachers as well. But honestly how do you not know that it is someone in the school who is giving out multiple email addresses. I asked a friend who is in China now to find out for me and he found out that the school doesn't always treat the foreign teachers that well and the pay isn't as good as it should be.
What now?

Hi There,

I understand what you are saying. I found Bob via a goggle search not through the listing at the school. Another employee, Drew Ling has a blog that he writes and he has somethings to say about the school. http://www.blogger.com/profile/01943295051760734508 I doubt that he is writing in his personal blog to promote the school but you are the one that has to make the choice. I think they will offer you a six month contract. You could give it a try and if it's not to your liking then leave after six months. At least you will know what you want from a school and perhaps the best way to get it. I'm sure no school is perfect but the fact that there are not any really bad things said about Haidian on this board or other boards such as Raoul's China Saloon http://raoulschinasaloon.com/index.php perhaps is a thing in the school's favor.

Another resource is http://buxiban.com

In the end I would go with my gut feeling. If I didn't feel comfortable with the school, then I wouldn't go there.

I don't know if that is much help, but it's my take on things.

Joanne
