| Hmm... I guess it would depend on whether the deportation appears anywhere on your US (or other Western) criminal record? It's an interesting question as to how foreign convictions appear or don't appear on one's official paper trail. My guess would be that nobody would know except the Koreans so you'd be free to go anyplace else in the world to live and work. |

| Hypothetically questionning, don't nations have access to international police records? You don't have to be deported to have problems in working in some countries. I mean the US wont issue visas for many types of criminal comvictions. |

I adore the children with whom I work. The last thing I would ever want to subject them to is some drugged-up,low-life piece of sh*t. Taiwan already has too many of that type of foreigner. The best thing that could ever happen is for him/her to end up taking that walk off the roof of a high-rise.
Go to Taiwan or Japan? How about go to Hell?
Hypothetically speaking, of course. |

| Let say, not hypothetically, that neither Taiwanese law nor foreigners already present in Taiwan welcome those with drug related criminal records. Be they in Korea or elsewhere. |

| hypothetically or not, I am good teacher, and a good person. just because (hypothetically of course) I was at a club, in which cops came in and drug tested everybody, and i hypothetically failed the drug test, because i smoked pot two times in korea, doesn't mean i should go to hell and don'tdeserve a second chance. |

| Any teacher who works at my school that gets caught doing drugs is fired on the spot, even if it happens outside of work time. It's written into the contract. Kids deserve more than some drug-addled hippy throwing stickyballs at a whiteboard. |

Same as in Korea, obviously. The guy wants a second chance. And he's talking about marijuana, not heroin. Relax.
I would say you're OK to work in another country and hopefully you've learned your lesson - Asia's not lenient on "drugs" unless it's drinking and passing out on the street covered in vomit - that's ok. |

Second toke on a spliff and busted by the cops! 2fingaz must be the world's most unlucky dope smoker!
As true (or maybe untrue) as this story is it's not likely to find any sympathy with authorities across Asia. Good person he may be, and great teacher he could be, but all the authorities will see is a drug-related offence on an application for employment. Second chances are hard to find with Asian governments and Taiwan's regulations are for all to see upon landing on the island.
2fingaz, I don't want to be pessimistic but a sense of realism would no doubt make things difficult on the work front in SE Asia. If you're really a good teacher and want to continue in TEFL then I'd try S. America. Europe is a closed shop as I presume you dont hold a EU passport, so why not try pastures new and, as bitter as it might be, put it down to experience. |
