I went through the AEON interview process over the weekend and am quietly confident that I'll be offered a position with them. This morning I received a letter from NOVA saying that I've been accepted by them.

The problem is they've given me until the 26th to accept the offer, but AEON won't get back to me for "10 to 15 days". I'd MUCH rather work for AEON than NOVA, so I'm not sure what to do now...

If I do accept NOVA's offer and send off my degree certificate and all the other paperwork, am I committed to them then? If AEON later accept me, might they be able to change things with Japanese immigration...?

I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO! HELP!!! Surprised Sad

Contact AEON and explain your circumstances. If they want you, they will hire you. I'm sure they have already made up their mind about you. They should respect you for not wanting to go against your word with NOVA.

This is inevitable. You have to choose one or the other eventually. In fact, you have to choose one over the other eventually. So, instead of doing that later, simply do it now and stick to your decision. If you ditch NOVA for AEON and don't get the AEON job, then you can look back and think "Well, I wouldn't have been happy at NOVA anyway." If you ditch AEON for NOVA and then AEON want to hire you, you can think "Well, I would have been happier at AEON I think but heck, I'm off to Japan! I'm going to make the most of this. No looking back. No regrets."

Seems like win-win situation to me.

Think of it, in five years, it probably won't make a scrap of difference which you go with.

Well I took Gordon's advice and emailed AEON about my problem to see what they say.

Hopefully they'll contact me with some advice about what to do before the 26th. If not, I'll accept NOVA's offer and deal with the consequences...

And if you miss out on both of them, there are still half a dozen other schools you can apply to from overseas, and worst case you can fly here and look for a job from within the country and you will have more choices open to you.

Getting turned down by one of the big schools is not the end of the world- you may just have to regroup and try again.

shmooj,

Good out look on life. I agree. I took a job in Osaka and it turn out to but crap. However, I meet my friend there(Osaka, not at my work). Now I would say she is my best Japanese friend.

So what ever happens, make the most out of it. Maybe going with Nova will put you in a place that you will like better. You never know.

Hi Viddy,

congratulations!

I think everyone has some great advice here, especially Gordon. If you contact AEON and tell them your situation, they'll either give you an answer or they'll ask for more time. The worst that could happen then is that AEON won't give you a final answer by the 25th...so you'll take NOVA's offer, and you'll be in Japan anyway.

by the way, I've just applied with NOVA and AEON, so I'll let you know what happens with that.

Which cities did you request to be placed in?

cheers

Dear PAULH,

You mentioned there are half a dozen other schools one can apply to from overseas, I imagine this would include GEOS, ECC, and the JET programme (although technically not a school)?

What would be the other ones?

I've tried finding some information on ECC or a website, but the link in the FAQ doesn't seem to work, and web searches that I've done have also been unsuccessful.

cheers

I'm sure this was a slip of Paul's fingers. I have no web site. He probably meant my info files.

Cheers for the congrats, avahanian.

I didn't request a specific location with either company, just a large city somewhere in the south. After spending last year in Canada, I didn't want to go to the north and freeze my nuts off again! Wink

If anyone has questions about the interview process for either company, post a message.

Glenski

just in case you havent updated your company files yet the NOVA teachers webpage has changed too. The official website is still http://www.teachinjapan.com but this is the NOVA union site.

It is now http://www.novaunion.com and can be accessed through http://www.generalunion.org as well.

Thanks PaulH

The link seems to work this time, for some strange reason!

No you veterans are not all mean and nasty all the time, but living anywhere for so long will drive you mad (take it from me, I'm the maddest of the lot!) Laughing

cheers
