Recently someone handed me a Corona and said "here man, this is probably your favorite beer now" at a barbeque. Fact is... it's not. Unfortunately, the image of Mexican beer in the U.S. is not a good one. Nor is the image of American beer in other parts of the world...
However... brewers in both countries are finally producing good (or at least respectable) craft beers; ales, bocks, lagers and marzens...
What is your favorite Mexican Beer?
I for one get excited when November hits and Noche Buena is in stores... but when it isn't I reach for Casta (if available), Bohemia Oscura, or if need be, Victoria and Indio with some michelada mix. |

I like anything dark that tastes a bit European. I would have voted for Leon but Bohemia (dark) comes a close second. Anything that isn't dark tastes like nats pss to me. |

I like the darker beers as well. I just can't see the point in drinking a light beer because they don't seem to have much flavour. So Bohemia is it for me. |

Bohemia, la crema de las cervezas. It honestly does taste creamy. Even the light one.

AHHH Bohemia Obscura! Now that's a beer.
Noche Buena is right up there for me.
I also like Leon and Victoria--not on your list!
I won't touch a Corona or anything like that. I wind up drinking Victoria or Indio because they are widely available where I live and Bohemia is not. |

Has anyone tried Minerva? It seems to be local to Guadalajara and a little bit difficult to find. But, I really liked it. |

For me it's Negra Modelo, but Bohemia and Pacifico come close seconds. Mind you I am still partial to the odd Corona.
They've just opened a trendy new bar near our house with international beers- they sell Modelo and Negra Modelo but they cost 3.50 each (around 70 pesos ). We do pop by for a sneaky one every now and then, and hubby appreciates the little taste of home, but we'd need a mortgage to drink there regularly.
Can we start another pole on favourite tequila please? |

Mmmm... Negro Modelo. Delicious. Although I prefer light beers when drinking Micheladas.
I constantly get into fights w/my boyfriend, who is always asserting that Corona is the world's best beer and has been declared so by beer officials, which sounds like a load of crap to me. I tell him there's a big difference between the most-recognized beer and the best.
Oh, and how is it that Corona Obscura is called "dark"? Isn't the bottle just a different color? I can't taste the difference at all. |

I prefer Vicky for my micheladas...
Here in the States a Michelada is almost ALWAYS a clamacheve... which I don't care for.
I think the watery quality of the most popular Mexican beers is what influences the prevalence of Micheladas and Mangocheves and all that. It has no flavor, so it needs dressing up. |

It's "fiesta de la Cerverza" at the Superama in SLP (started yesterday I think). I picked up a variety pack and give my thoughts as soon as I get through the 4 kinds. |

Don't drink much in the way of beer, in US or Mexico, I do however like a small glass of Mescal. My father-in-law buys it from an 80-something year old man in the mountains. That's how he makes money now by selling his Mescal. The old man, a former brick-layer, can barely move but still knows how to make Mescal. I think this stuff seriously rivals Pappy-23. It's that good. |
