A question for those of you who are either teaching in schools here, or have some experience of the Peruvian education system (is that an oxymoron?). I am particularly interested in learning more about the state of the state system.
Why do you think the standards are soooo bad? And just how bad are they? I know teachers are not well trained --- but why not? I know teachers arent well paid and that in the state system APRA members get a lot of favours.
I am kind of, sort of, maybe thinking of maybe doing a masters thesis on it. |

Standars seem low period. Plagarism is rampant. Classes are small and teachers aren't that compentent. |

....thought about that thesis also, back when i was in Ecuador. there are probably 20 or more factors that influence the poor quality of some of these Latin American countries.
1) very few know they will not go on to the univ.
2) not serious about studying
3) nowhere to study privately...too much noise
4) have to work at home
5) out playing soccer
6) lack of control in the class
7) no jobs, so why study?
parents
9) days are too short
10) boys pushed towards science / engineering
etc etc |
