Well, Rodolfo Chikilicuatre and his El Chiki Chiki dance have lost the Eurovision song contest to Russia, which featured this rather disturbing pop-violin-ice skate trio. Spain did not even make it to the top 10.
But at least there were good English skills on display by the top performers and announcers. It looks like a winning song must be in English instead of in a language most other nationalities in Europe are not as likely to be familiar with.
Yay, now I am watching Rafaella commenting about it on "Salvemos". They are having a big tertulia about why Chiki Chiki lost. (TVE can be a real pleasure sometimes, for instance when they were reporting about Hillary Clinton's smashing win last week in the Virginia primary. )
LOL, now they are showing viewers' text messages at the bottom of the screen and they are sending insults to the rest of Europe for not voting for Spain. As if Chiki Chiki isn't likely to be another washed out forgotten nobody a year from now, or performing for rent money on Buenafuente with his noisy little guitar. |

Spain and pretty much all the Western European countries could compose a modern day masterpiece and they'd still never win Eurovision because of the regional bloc voting which is tediously predictable. A Latvian argued this point with me but gave in after I'd correctly predicted the top three in the Irish vote as Latvia, Poland and UK (the last only because Lithuania lost in the semis) and Romania to get the 12 points from Spain (again only due to the absence of Morocco!) |

I'm happy to say that thanks to TVE Internacional being bizarrely available via one Middle Eastern satellite company, I too was able to enjoy the Eurovision song contest, possibly in solitary splendour in the whole UAE. In my opinion, Spain had its best chance to pull off a shocker two or three years ago with Las Supremas de Mostoles (or something similar) but they were voted into second place and some bland act was sent instead. Having said that, I do admire them for continuing to present their songs in Spanish, rather than succumbing to the awful mid-Atlantic caterwauling of most other candidates. Europe's living a celebration, anyone? |

The Eurovision is a joke. Even Terry Wogan has had enough! |
