I think I drink a bit more now than when I first responded to this poll. Still in moderation, still only girlie drinks, etc., but now for the first time in my life I actually store alcoholic beverages in my house, and if I am just lounging around watching a video, I might open up a chu-hai (great little girlie drink in Japan).

For Christmas I got a bartending book full of all sorts of beautiful-looking concoctions, and I blew I don't even know how much money on liquor. I am having a blast experimenting with different ingredients! Not all of the experiments have been successful, unfortunately. I still have my self-discipline, though, so I'm not worried about going overboard.

I thoroughly endorse Biffinbridge's sentiments.

Well for some of us "one is too many and ten is not enough".
I have not had a drink today. Believe me, sober is better than drunk !

My ex-employer in Spain laid on a free medical. We were examined by three or four doctors, the last of whom asked questions about drinking, smoking and exercise. I told her I drank, on average, three bottles of wine a week, justifying my indulgence on the grounds that Spanish wines were very good. "Yes," she replied, "but you don't have to try them all at once!" I took the hint and cut down to two bottles.
In summer, there's nothing like a chilled beer with fresh lemon juice.

Sounds like something I should try!

I usually get pretty drunk once a week (usually Friday night), buzzed one weekday night with a co-worker (five pints or so), and maybe have two or three drinks while watching TV two other nights.

I give up booze for one month every January. And by about this time, I say to myself that I'm going to quit forever. Maybe I'll do it this time. I have a hard time with moderation, and I'm absolutely loving life without hangovers.

I stopped (so far) in April of 1991. I usually drank to get as tanked as possible. I eventually developed a pattern that, in my opinion, resembled addiction closely enough that I think that's an accurate name to give it. I certainly am in no position to judge people who drink; I estimate as best I can that I got drunk about 3,000 times in a 20-year period. If I really thought I could get away with drinking, I'd probably still be drinking. My take is that there's nothing wrong with alcohol; there's just something wrong with me with regard to alcohol. Sad

Somebody said that prob'ly the teetotalers were old f*rts. That's true in my case, unless you measure age in terms of emotional maturity. Very Happy

I sometimes did very goofy things while drunk (and, recalling some incidents, that's putting it very mildly). But then again, never on my wildest binge did I even come close to going to Taiwan to teach English, so go figure. . . . Confused

Too often I think. The cost of beer in China means i'm finding it much easier to knock it back than I ever have before.
Usually 3-4 times a week but since the holidays started i've drank practically every night, even though i'm on anti-biotics.
I love the fact I can afford to go out and eat and drink plentifully every night if I wish.
