| What happens more often than not these days is that by the time the HCT has got its act together enough to offer a job, the person has found other employment. I know 3 people who have had this experience. |

There is no longer a pool in the old sense. Now, you have to apply for a specific job which has been advertised. If you are still waiting, you ought to contact HR and find out your situation. They could be keeping you hanging on for their purposes and you lose the chance of a job elsewhere. Adjuncts have been told in many colleges that there will be no work for them next academic year and teachers who are leaving are not being replaced. Other teachers are being relocated.
If the wasta students arrive in September, it'll be interesting because recent events have nothing to do with central funding. The 15% payrise is only available because there will be fewer teachers and students. It's not new money. |

Thank you all for your replies. They have been very helpful.
As Saluki says:

I have just received another offer and I don't want to lose my chance at a job. I don't know how much the video conference costs the HCT, but to interview someone only to keep them in a pool is such a waste. And June is a bit far off still . . . |

What is PPP?
I see that HCT is advertising again. What does this mean for those of us who have been interviewed and waiting? |

It wouldn't seem good. I think I would call or email and ask... seems appropriate to do so since they have run a new ad. I was surprised to see it when we had posters saying how they were overstaffed.

| The new ad may be because of the funding announcement on Friday. I would certainly ask how your application is progressing as it's quite possible they will keep you hanging incase a 'better' applicant appears. |

ADNOC are advertising for teachers again. I saw the ad just the other day.
UOS interviewed me at TESOL and I was offered the job on the day but that was for a community campus not the big UOS campus. |

HCT posted a job advert in the Khaleej Times and Gulf News last week for Adjunct English teachers. Guess they will hire in country to fill their immediate need rather than someone like me, whom they interviewed last month. |

Alfie,
Don't despair yet. I know 3 people who interviewed w/ HCT in April. All were told to expect contact from _________ men's/women's college. Friends in HCT tell me this is the slowest part of the hiring process. |

Alfie.
The wait from the interview to actually being offered a position is one of the longest.
Something you need to remember here... it is a bunch of hurry hurry hurry, wait wait wait wait wait, oh... hurry hurry hurry.
My wife interviewed last year at the TESOL conference in the states. She was told at the interview to expect an offer within a couple of weeks. The conference was the 2nd week of march. We didn't get a firm offer until the middle of may, and a contract in hand until June 1st.
then it was hurry hurry get it signed and back to us, and now run around and get your documents authenticated (mailing to the State we lived in to get authenticated and notarized, then to the US government to get the same, then to the UAE consulate, and having it all shipped back to us.
In the mean time after we accepted the contract, we didn't hear from them again until the first week of August so we could fly here on Aug 10. (so now wait wait wait... oh your plane leaves in 3 days hurry hurry hurry)
It is very very disconcerting the way the HR departments in this part of the world work, especially if you are used to a good HR department that contacts you, sends you updates, lets you know information... That doesn't exist here...
So just hang in there... if you are really concerned, then email the HR department in abu dhabi... but don't get too worried if they don't answer for 2 or 3 weeks. |

I did send HR an email . . . maybe 3 weeks ago. I got a message back saying that they were away until May 25th.
Ho hum.
Thanks for your words of comfort. |
