Can anyone currently at ET tell me how flexible the scheduling is? I know someone who has recently started at an ET and seems pretty happy. I am looking for a school where they might consider the teacher's right to make advance plans in their life. For example if you are on part-time hours at ET, can they be restricted to certain days a week, freeing you up to do other jobs on the other days?

If you are part time, you can work whenever you like providing we have the hours to give you. The only clause is that if you start a class, you finish it.

The Taks One branch has had no Head Teacher for two months. The Taks. two Head Teacher will leave at the end of May. That means no Head Teacher at either branch.

What are the qualifications for Head Teacher, and why do they keep bailing - undue pressure?

Some of the Heads have pretty good qualifications, some don't really have that much.

However, if you ET likes the way you teach and conduct yourself, you have a shot.

Bear in mind, you make little headway with the ET books. Students either fail and are passed by management or they are allowed to cheat in their exams by the teachers who just don't care anymore. The school is producing an assembly line of idiots. The management is happy to pass them and get them out of there as quickly as possible. Teachers are fed up or don't care.

You want to be a Head Teacher in that mess?

Taksim has lost 3 Heads in the last 7 months.

Every head teacher has at least a BA and a Celta plus experience. Being a headteacher is really hard work.......it gets easier with time. I think that this is the first contract during which l haven't toyed with stepping down. I can't say that those times l felt like giving up could be blamed on anything that ET had done. It is just a damn hard job.

Not true. The Head that just resigned from Taks 2 had no CELTA experience.

I was offered a Head Teaching position in the past although at the time I had no CELTA teaching experience.

Well, l know that the now ex Taksim 2 teacher is great as a person and was good at his job. I assume he had enough experience and expertise to wave the need for the Celta. I suppose that l can make the same assumption about you Very Happy

Well if you knew him then you must have known he wasn't CELTA qualified. And yes, he is a fine fellow.

Yes, you can make the same assumption about me Smile

A word of advise if you are thinking of working here stay well away. They are a rip off. They treat their teachers like garbage. Another thing to take into account this is something <ı experienced as well as many other teachers. As you are payed on an hourly basis when your class has finished you will more than likely find yourself out of work for a few weeks and they dont care whether you need the money or not. They also take students word against the teachers. So stay well away.

They've just closed at least three branches in the last month; including the Taksim 2 Branch, yet they keep hiring new teachers.

I just spoke with the General Manager about your comments. He replied that since you know more about what's going on at E.T. than him, perhaps you should work here at General Headquarters. Your talents are certainly being wasted teaching.

Pay rates have been going up at a number of schools.

In the past a rate of around 12-17 T.L was ok to get by on, now that rate equals poverty. We need rates to be around 26 to 30 T.L, just to be on par with what teachers got rea terms four or five years ago.

People working at ET who have no idea what's going on.....what a surprise Shocked

Tell the GM to speak to his teachers. They are the ones leaving the schools.

I was told by Kad teachers that at least two branches in Kad were closed recently. Regarding Taksim two, I acutally saw teachers walking with their belongings of their lockers all the way to Taksim One. When I asked them what was up, they explained it to me.

The Taks Manager took a holiday in July. There was no Manager, Head Teacher or Grammar teacher at either Taks. 1 or two during that time.

The Taks 1 Branch has had no Head Teacher for five months, no Grammar teacher for six months. Their teachers don't have enough hours, yet more teachers are being hired.

Students openly admit to being allowed to cheat by the teachers. The standard at the branch is a joke. There is really no need to cheat as failing students are usually passed anyway.

It was mentioned recently that a student who was failing, asked to 'retake' an exam. He openly cheated in front of the staff, and his mark went from 0 to above 90.

You can pass all of this along to the GM the next time you speak to him.

If these comments regarding conditions at ET are true, then management would be wise to ask his staff not to quote him in this forum.

If these comments are not true, self-appointed sidekicks to management would be wise to keep quiet to allow rumors to dissipate.

As for indiscretions in testing, it would seem that Dave's would not be the proper venue for reporting them. A good employee would complete a formal report at any legitimate school.

Criticism is only worth making if one is going to do something about it for the sake of ethics at the workplace. And so we might ask why does this poster like taking pot shots at any school rather than doing something about it?

I am not impressed with this school or its staff but the sort of comments being made here are neither constructive nor going anywhere.
