Hello everyone,

Interac have now issued me some details about my placement which is in the Miyagi Prefecture working at "between 3 and 5 different schools". According to the guy on the phone he "thinks they're near Sendai City..." so I don't know how much value to place on that...

I'm expected/required to drive too, which isn't much of a problem for me, except that I have to pay 50% of the rental cost per month (14-17000 yen). I guess that's not such a bad deal really...

Miyagi looks nice to me, but it's a big place and without further details who knows.

Anyone currently working in Miyagi?

And what does everyone think about this car rental deal... working at 3-5 schools? Is that going to be a major pain, or varied and fun?

Thanks for the input,
Rich

Worked for Interac in south Miyagi-ken a few years back and covered 14 different schools per month. The job was cake; easy schedule and an early knock-off time.

Living in Miyagi was great; I drove into Sendai every weekend, sometimes twice and think it's a great town. A lot of people who've never been to the Tohoku area don't realize how good the food is up there. Also, probably the most laid-back and down-to-earth folks I've met in Japan so far, are Tohoku folk.

Good luck. You'll enjoy it.

Oh ya? I really like some of the rural areas of Japan. How are the salaries out there though? I would imagine they would be lower since the number of students would be lower than in urban areas... But hey, the rent is probably cheaper too Smile Best of luck!!

Thanks for the input I appreciate it.

FYI - Salaries for Interac are the same accross the board as far as I'm aware. It's the standard 250,000 yen. Plus they are paying 50% of my car rental, which will be between 14,000 and 17,000.

Take the job. It's an experience you won't get with any of the big eikaiwa companies.

If you don't like it after a year, take a job somewhere else.

They're shafting you on the car rental. Rentals on white plates run at about 25,000 a month and kei cars are about 19,000.

This is a common theme, especially from the replies I got at letsjapan.org. Those guys are extremely skeptical about the car costs.

But to be honest I don't see how I have any bargaining power in this. Either I take their offer, or I don't.
