Hi,

I'm currently teaching in Korea but am considering a move to China as my next step. I've come across a program there that I believe would work nicely for my long-term career goals.

Anyway, here in Seoul we have several areas that you can go to to pick up various western products (food, clothing, etc). Is there such an area or perhaps a particular store or three that you know of in China (whatever city) to get western products.

Please don't say "Hong Kong." The program I'm considering doesn't appear to have any locations near Hong Kong.

Thanks!

You should check the China Off Topic forum (you need to log in) there are a bizillion threads on that topic. Short answer, and I've never been to Korea, is yes you can find western goods in all of those cities, although no doubt much more so in BJ and Shanghai than in Shenyang. Shenyang is a huge city but much less international than the other two. I would guess you would have better luck in Dalian in the same province. Any large city should be okay though, and especially if there are a lot of foreigners there.

Also it depends on what you mean by western goods. Food? Size 48 shoes? Good deodorant? Tampons? Cheese? Some things are harder to come by than others. Search the threads on China Off Topic.

I looked high and low and can't seem to locate the China Off Topic section. Where is it hidden? (not that I doubt you)

When I go to Dave's, the Korea Job Forum pages come up on the home page. Other than that, the only option appears to be International Job Forums. Under that, it's separated by geographical region. China is under Asia. There are then two China possibilities: 1) Job-related and 2) General Asia.

Is there another place to look?

Thanks for the help!

PS The program I'm considering has locations in: Tianjin, Qingdao, Wuhan, Wuxi and Shenyang.

It is hidden for some reason. If you click on home at the top left, and then pull down stuff for teachers > international job forums> asia> then China Off Topic should appear. If not, try logging out and repeating, but you have to log in to view the Off Topic.
