As many of you know I am leaving for Japan in four weeks. I was planning to apply to NOVA and AEON etc once I am out there as I dont have time now.
The problem is I have a specific area where I want to live in Tokyo, ideally near Shinjuku or somewhere around that area on the Chuo line (Ogikubo, kichijoji etc).
How easy is it going to be to get a job with one of the big four and live where I want to live??
I am also going to apply to many other places too but NOVA seems a good starting place especially with my limited experience! |

NOVA is the only one that takes requests such as these (AEON asks you for a general city size and weather type). However, a position at a NOVA school in one of these areas may not come up for a while.
My advice for you would be to find another English language school (i.e. not one of the Big 4) in these areas. You'll have a better chance of success this way, I think... |

NOVA FAQ says:
Obviously we send people to the areas where positions are available. Having said this though, during the selection process you'll be able to let us know if you have any general preferences. Candidates may wish to select more than one area of interest when considering where they like to live and work. With over 500 branches throughout the islands of Japan we're usually able to accommodate most preferences.
AEON FAQ says:
We can accept location requests, but we are not always able to accommodate them, though we try to do so to the best of our ability. The more specific a location request is, the harder it is to grant it. Naturally, we are working with the positions that need to be filled.
When a person is offered a position with AEON or Amity, the person is told the location of the school before he or she signs the contract. Also, he or she is given some specific information about the location. This has been very successful in ensuring that our new teachers will enjoy life where they live in Japan. Japan is the size of California with a very extensive, fast train system. It is easy to travel to different points in Japan. |
