Help! I am twenty-four but it seems I have the bones of a senior citizen. To compound this, our hot water heater won't heat water past "lukewarm" and our windows don't keep the cold, damp air out. I ache, I ache! I desperately need a hot water bottle, but we can't find them anywhere! I have been to two pharmacies and Soriana- everyone seems to understand what we're describing, but they say they don't carry them. Where should I look? |

I've been unsuccessful in the same quest, and I ended up using beanbags heated in the microwave. They don't stay hot very long, though.
I do find themhot water bottles, I meanonline at Sanborns, $135 pesos. http://tinyurl.com/4s7l7h Good luck finding them in stock ... |

I tried to find one too when I was in Guad; no luck except for one at an IMSS store and it was so outrageously priced I said "NO". But, what about medical supply stores that seem to be around hospitals? Do you know any nurses?
good luck. aching bones are no fun. |

They are around. I picked one up at my neighborhood supermarket for about 60 pesos. Electric heating pads seem to be more common around here though. |

I've been thinking of getting an electric heating pad for backaches brought on by shlepping home heavy jugs of water from the Superama. But I wonder if they use a ton of electricity... |

I brought mine back after a visit home because I couldn't find one anywhere. Again, people seemed to know what they are but didn't ever seem to sell them. Glad to know I'm not the only one who thinks they're an essential.
Aren't you heading home soon anyway Jetgirly? If not I'll be in Gdl on 30th June, I'd be happy to buy you a cheap one here in England and bring it over then you can reimburse me. PM me if you're still stuck. |

Thanks Mrs L, but I am leaving on July 1st (Canada Day)! Guy, I had forgotten about Walmart but if the rain lets up tomorrow I will head over there. I haven't determined which is worse: going out in the pouring rain to obtain the water bottle, or living without it! |

I'm assured that the Paris Pharmacy (very famous and very busy!) downtown DF stocks them! |

Corner of 5 de Febrero (entry corner of Zcalo & Madero) and Republic of Uruguay. Any problems and anyone downtown will know "Farmacia Pars" |

Hi Jetgirly,
I hope you've been successful with your hunt for the hot water bottle. I know you're a grown up and everything, but I thought I was until I did this to my hand...
One night, drunkenly filling my hottie, I poured a cup of boiling water over my hand and ended up burning my entire hand. The above is what's left of the scar nearly 3 years later. I had tendon damage in my first two fingers, and nearly lost the use of my first two fingers and thumb.
I don't use a hottie anymore.
So, stay warm, but please also be careful. Hot water bottle "burps" and slips can be horrendous. |
