It was just announced yesterday that we will get another increase, effective as of June 1st.

More details are supposed to be announced regarding the increase early next week. Very Happy

That is great news, but they still need to make the salary scale more transparent and sort out the inequities in people's salaries. Why, for example, do new people still make more money than people who have been here for 20 years? Has anyone ever actually seen a salary scale for faculty or UGRU instructors for that matter?
The fun never stops!

Yes, you're right.

I heard something about salaries being becoming equitable this year, i.e. more raises given to people who have been there longer to bring their salaries up to the recent par. But that may have been just a rumour. Sad

Yes I heard that too, and the source was the A Provost so i had thought it was reliable. Normally he can be trusted not to say anything until he's sure of his facts. But I'm no longer confident about this one - maybe someone more senior than him decided it wasn't on.

That is exactly the word that has also been circulating around at HCT since January 2008 hires were taken on at higher rates than people who've been working there for 5 years.

It was even used by one director when saying how the HCT salary scales needed to be overhauled (if indeed there are such things.)

Transparency was another word I remember being used.

Nothing has changed yet.

Still, a rise is a rise, eh? Very Happy

Another example of the unchangingness of these places. This same complaint was being talked about in the late 80's. Apparently it is still "under discussion." Rolling Eyes Laughing They do hate to rush into things.

Hey
We're in Thailand. Have experience and TEFLs. Recruiters are offering like
$4,400US/mo. True?
And since we're newbies to the middle east; what is the inevitable downsude?

That sounds like the bogus scammers (you posted on the other thread that was about them). If you don't have a MA TESOL or teaching certification your earning power and ability to find decent employers drops significantly.

The amount was announced yesterday, it will be about AED 4,000 extra a month for Instructors (UGRU?) and about AED 3,000 a month more for College Instructors. We will get it retroactively paid (from this past June 1st) with September's paycheck. Very Happy

Hi all,

I was recruited as an Instructor to begin next August before this raise. Does anybody know I'll be given this raise. And if not can you please ask if new faculty recruited before the raise will be entitled to get one as they were treated according to the previous pay scale.

Thank you all.

I thought it was the other way around. UGRU is becoming the University "College" next academic year so UGRU would get the 2900 college instructor raise and instructors without PhD's and EdD's in the faculties would get the 3900 raise. Anybody out there know for sure?

Also not sure if the raise will be reflected in new hires salaries if they already signed a letter of intent.

I would think you should get it. You could always ask HR directly, they should be able to give you an answer.

Geez, I don't know then if we would get 2900 or 4000...an Arabic friend of mine who teaches in the Faculty and who read the info in Arabic said that UGRU should be getting the 4,025 raise. But, if not, 2900 is still very nice! Very Happy

You won't be making that with only minimal qualifications.
Korea is a better place to head with your profile.
