But for Thailand?? A master's would be overkill.

There are not that many schools here that require a master's. To teach at most schools in Thailand, all you need is a BA.

True, lots of schools would pay you more with a masters, but I don't think a slight pay increase would make up for the expensive two years it takes to get the masters in the first place.

Two of the 6 teachers at my school have a masters in education. They make more money than I do, but they are sending all of it home to pay off their student loans.

Most people don't stay in Thailand forever. An MA TESOL will secure you a teaching job anywhere in the world. Try finding an ESL job back home with just a BA and TEFL...

Here in Thailand it will open doors to the more lucrative teaching jobs. My MA TESOL helped me get a job in an International School as well as in one of the better paying unis.

Getting an MA requires a lot of work. The bottom line line is: if teaching English is your true passion, then do the MA. If you're only teaching English because that's what allows you to travel and there's isn't any other job to find, then don't do it!
