This should be the penultimate chapter in my FM3 saga (or should that be stanza?) Anyway, after waiting and waiting to hear from my lawyer (I last had contact with his office almost a month ago), I called there this morning. Apparently, my FM3 was issued on Wednesday, but I'll have to wait two weeks before it's handed over to them and then on to me. Wonder why there's this bureaucratic time lapse....?

But the nice secretary assured me that I am no longer here on a tourist visa, which means that the Migraci�n Militia can't come and take me away for giving English classes illegally!

Don't you have to go down there and pick it up yourself so that you can sign it and it can be stamped? When my last boss took care of the process I still had to go down there and pick it up myself.

No, MO39, you will not have to go to Immigration at all. Enrique Urbina does everything for you. You will only have to go to his legal office.

Well, the last time I visited him, I had to go with one of his junior lawyers to the bank, to have my picture taken, and to Migraci�n. A ver qu� pasa...

Oh right, MO39. Mine was a renewal, yours is a completely new fm3, so I could very be wrong. Oh well, thank goodness immigration is only around the corner.

and by the way, I was very impressed with the Mextesol conference. I did not have high expectations considering all the confusion about my proposal, but I felt the presentations, particularly by schrader, extremely professional and of the highest quality!!!

MO39, congratulations but be careful with it. The FM-3 booklet is of very poor quality and will fall apart easily.

I carried mine around all the time in my pocket as directed by "la migra"
When the book fell apart, I had to pay 450 pesos extra for a new one and the local director tried to get a "mordida" from me for the "delito grave" of destroying Mexican government property. I keep it in a zip lock bag now in my backpack.

You're fortunate to have someone take care of the process for you. As posted here, those on their own sometimes make up to eight trips back and forth, waiting two hours each trip, until they are finally successful

Enrique will supply you with a plastic cover for the FM3, so until he does or neglects to do, refrain from purchasing any protective cover.

Yes, there is some obscure law on the books about the destruction of government property that the judicial system injudiciously subjects its citizenry.
I had a student last year who had to pay 45,000 pesos to the feds when his car went out of control and struck a roadside curb after his tire had flown off the axle. Yes, that`s 45,000, you read it correctly. I could not believe it myself and aked him three times to verify the figure.
