And how is it to work for ZU ? Do they have the same high stress reputation as HCT? Is it the same kind of working environment? |

Can anyone here give us a general idea of the compensation package ZU is offering? I have been invited to interview, but would like to know if it's even worth the trouble. |

At TESOL ZU was offering a bit more than HCT salary-wise...maybe 1500-2000 more/month? |

ZU - great place to work. Same package as other government universities. Air tickets for you, your spouse and up to three children annually, provision of housing and educational fees, furniture allowance 30,000 AED (one time if living in unfurnished apartment -- you may end up in serviced hotel apartment until housing can be found). The salary for ESL teachers depends on experience -- starting salary is about 11,000 AED a month. The students are typical UAE national students (everyone has a different opinion on how they feel about them). |

I most certainly talking about JohnSlat's chicks. Those are the most adorable kind. The kind that would draw me to ZU. Don't they prefer hiring ugly men to teach there? If the men are too handsome, chemistry might build up in the classrooms. Their ideal of an English Teacher is Shrek. So, they rejected me straight away. |

Dear baedaebok.
"JohnSlat's chicks" - Yikes, I hope my wife never reads this thread.

I would guess that this is the reason for the late posting.
The positive info I've received about working in Sweihan:
-students are lovely-NO discipline problems
-classrooms are totally wired/smartboards in every room and the standard laptops for students and teachers/WiFi in every classroom
-You live in Abu Dhabi
The cons as they've been explained to me:
-students have an exceptionally low level of English
-It's about a 35 minute drive each way of your commute |

Geez...maybe I should apply to ZU. I interviewed with them at TESOL Arabia conference but nothing came of that. That job fair is over-rated amd has never been successful for me. All my successful interviews have been outside TESOL Arabia.
Are they still accepting applications? Is the salary around 15,000? |
