|
|
My fiance and I are full-time travelers in our late-twenties/early-thirties looking to refill our travel funds in 2009 by teaching English. I'm from the U.S. with an undergraduate BS degree and an MBA, but no teaching experience. She's a dual Peruvian/Chilean passport holder with a CELTA cert, 13 years of teaching adults English in the classroom, and two associates degrees (from Peru and Chile). We've got a son that'll only be a year (and change) old by the time we're looking to start all this up.
Naturally, I'm a little surprised that even with all her experience and the certification that I'd probably land a job easier than she would.
Can anyone please suggest countries outside of the Americas where we can both live and teach for a period of time to replenish our savings? |

This gets asked about 3 or 4 times a year. Have you tried the SEARCH function at the top of the page? Where you can go might be limited to visa eligibility.
Since you are not married, you will each have to be eligible for a visa. Get married, and the situation might change, where one of you can get a job and sponsor the other for a dependent visa. |

Yep -- without too much luck.
Looking for location advice for a non-native speaker with experience, CELTA, and two associates degrees from non-English speaking countries. |

Well, if you got married than you could stay in Chile or Peru forever.
You' should have no probs finding jobs in Latin America
It's because she's not a native speaker that she'll have probs finding ajob. She could try universities or schools though.
But where are you looking? Asia? Africa? Europe? Let us know and we'll try to help. Personally I vote for Taiwan or Korea, you could work and she could teach privates, or stay at home with your sonn, but in those countries you could save money. Otherwise, you mnight try the Middle East, places there pay VERY well. But it's usually a two year committment, but free everything, housing, schooling, etc. |

Hi there,
Yes, we're looking to stay out of the Americas (north, central and south) -- anywhere else is fair game!
...and the marriage thing probably won't happen before the work, so it should be assumed that we'll need independent visas. It's my understanding that w/o a work visa for S. Korea, she'd face deportation (or worse?) if she was caught teaching privately.
I think a 6-month to 12-month contract would be about as long as we're able to handle. |

Europe's probably out - neither of you are easily eligible for legal work permits within the EU, and pay/hours won't work for families, in most cases. Pay in Europe generally isn't going to replenish anyone's savings, as you note you would like to do... |

Yes, that's true for Korea', though many people teach privates anyways. Check the Korea forum for more info |
