If you think this then you can clearly never have drunk good beer. The beer in Wuhan is amongst the worst I have tried in China.

I agree with you here though. The noodles ROCK! And only 1.5 RMB a bowl... |

Wuhan does have some good beer, I especially like "SNOW".
Those noodles can be translated into English as "hot and dry noodles", it sounds something like "Rew Gow Mi En" sorry I don't know the pinyin or the Chinese for it. They really are very good, especially with some diced peanuts sprinkled on top. |

Well, the weird thing is that when I lived in Wuhan, I found that the local bottles of snow were like every other Wuhan beer: just like sex on the beach (i.e. f***ing near water). Yet here in Dalian, there are some Snow variants which are pretty good. Indeed, when I went to Shenyang, I found a kind of Snow beer which was the finest bottle of beer I've had in China yet. It was in a bottle more like an import beer and had "Specially brewed" carved into the bottle. It was amazing stuff.
(Of course, this is the one problem with Chinese beer. Each brand appears to have dozens of different kinds of bottles, even within one city, some being the aforementioned sex on the beach, others being half-decent).
The noodles are called re gan mian. |

| Wuhan is not that bad.. I have been to GZ, Tianjin, and found both of those places to be bigger shit holes. In wuhan you are left alone to do your own thing.. Also a lot less of a chance of getting burned. GZ right know isn't proccessing work visa, and I got cooked be a school named Rockies english. I don't know anything about the other city you mentioned. All I know is I moved back to wuhan because of the close foreign communty. everybody helps each other. In most of the other big cities in China you are just another face. |

Huh, ok, sounds like people are pulling for Wuhan in general. This sounds more like the words I had heard from others, unlike the unfavorable reviews from early in the thread.
Anyone else with advice about living in Wuhan (and again, about any other city that anyone feels really strongly about- any place you've enjoyed working) and teaching in Wuhan? Greatly appreciated everyone, thanks |

| Stay away from New Dynamic Institute. TDM gives the best start up for foreigneers from out side the country.. If inside the country there are countless recuiters. |

really, most of these cities are all the same. Honestly.
You should really be asking yourself, what do you want to do in China? |

I spent my first year in China at Wuhan U back in 1994-95. I went back there in 2001. The first warning about that city is that it's hot--I recall sweating profusely in classrooms without aircon. The winter was below 10 celcius, though. The campus of Wuhan U is beatific, if that's where you're going; the rest of the city is ugly, even by Chinese standards, especially Hankou.
One advantage of Wuhan is that it's equidistant from all the interesting places in China, a consideration if you're planning to travel over your vacation.
I have visited Zhengzhou--a long time ago--and recall it as a grimy, redbrick and concrete industrial capital belching coal smoke. It's near some relevant historical sites, and I don't know your specific situation there, but I'd think twice about the place.
Good luck. |

My purpose is not to defend Zhengzhou. I wouldn't defend living in Zhengzhou any more then I would defend watching baseball (boring to most)

Long Ago, don't know, well Henan is pouring money into Zhengzhou the way Beijing is pouring China's money into Beijing. Overall I don't like the changes to Beijing or Zhengzhou. But Zhengzhou ain't the same. Let's see, have you been to the NEw Zhengzhou City, totally new city planned by Henan. Like all capital cities, industry has been pushed out.
air quality is rated the same as Wuhan. Sucks, but better then Beijing. You only truly realize how bad it is after coming from back home.
Wuhan has the deserved "furnance in the summer rep", definitely hotter then Zhengzhou, though China, Zhengzhou, is hot in the summer.
The Wuhan campus huge and beautiful. The old Zhengzhou has more parks and trees then Wuhan
But again, all these cities are the same. I think Zhengzhou is a better place to travel from, depending where you want to go though |

Again thanks for all the insight, everyone. I just received an offer from Huaxia University, in the Wuchang district of Wuhan. Has anyone ever heard of it? An organization called "ESL Across China" found it, any experiences with them?
I've kinda crossed Zhengzhou off the list, althoguh now I'm wondering if Chengdu, which was originally my plan like a year ago, is better than either of them. |

Zhengzhou is next door to Kaifeng, the most under rated city (small) in China, also convenient to Longmen/Luoyang, SHaolin, Xian, 5-hour train to Beijing
There is also a golf course. And lots lots lots more, I am sure, but since the OP has crossed Zhengzou off the list, I won't mention all the other wonderful things Zhengzhou has to offer at this time. Gotta keep it secret anyways, otherwise we would be flooded with foreigners, driving down the market |

| Anyone had any experience with Golden Apple Kindergarten in Chengdu? They have ads all over this site and others, the contract seems alright. Anyone know what the twist is? |
