How about a different approach at high schools, junior high schools, and universities? After maybe one or two years of the basics how about having simulation days in which students would use English to achieve real life task. Maybe setting up a supermarket classroom, restaurant, etc. For one year students would have "x" number of things they would have to learn to do in English. They would prepare appropriate level vocabulary and eventually perform the task in English more than once. Finally they could be graded on each task.
Then later in the curriculum classes would focus on reading appropriate level novels and debates on current issues. Time could be spend on teaching and testing students on key vocabulary for debates but eventually they would have to debate certain topics in English. |
