What happens : If you have an emergency and have to leave the country in a hurry? So - You arrive at airport with no re-entry permit for your KITAS.

1. Will you run into problems leaving or not be allowed to board your flight? And
2. Will you have to pay the fiscal exit tax of one million?

As far as I know, if you don't have an EPO you can't leave the country. At one time you could probably bribe the imigrasi at the airport, but with the anti-korupsi crew breathing down everyone's neck these days, they'll probably be reluctant to take your cash.

Someone once posted something about "losing" your passport and having your consulate issue you a replacement. Then you just pretend you were there on holiday. Two problems with this being: if you're in a hurry, your consulate may not get you a replacement in time and someone else told me that it doesn't matter anyway because they (Imigrasi) have all your visa information on computer.

If you are concerned about being able to get out swiftly when you need to - and I am due to my mother's ill health - you can pay for an Exit Re-entry Permit (ERP) which lasts for 6 months. You still have to pay the fiskal on every exit.

The sign of a crap employer is one who refuses to apply for an ERP so as to prevent dissatisfied staff from doing a runner. I'm happy to say my school hve no problems issuing an ERP.

I also have a MERP (Multiple Exit/Re-entry Permit) the latest price for one from south Jakarta Immigrasi is 800,000 rupiah and lasts for six months. It used to be about 550 thousand, but the price keeps going up Smile

I usually fly across to Singapore to visit the parents who live there at least every 8 weeks or so.. and this comes in handy.

Im able to get a "free" (meaning the office pays) for the MERP once a year, all other times I just pay for it myself. Money well spent in my opinion.

If your KITAS has less than 6 months on it and you need a MERP you are still able to get one. However you will still pay the price for a 6mths MERP, it will only be valid for say 3 or 4 months.. or whatever time you have left on the KITAS . (if that makes sense)

I am agree (!) In a genuine emergency your employer should be able to sort our an exit-re-entry permit quickly.
Normally, it takes a while (if for example you're just going out of Indonesia for a planned visit) but it CAN be done in an emergency.
Last year I heard late one night that my father had had a heart attack and I was able to get on a flight the following afternoon. The school's secretary spent several long hours that day at immigrasi (for which I'm very grateful) but did manage to get me one. I think it was a bit more expensive than normal but what was important was that I could go asap.
Obviously it's down to immigration in the end but any decent employer should have a good relationship with them and would at least try their damndest for you.
A multiple exit-entry is definitely worth getting if you plan to leave the country regularly. Otherwise just make sure you give the school plenty notice if you need an exit permit for a one-off holiday.
BTW, is it true that in Jakarta KITAS holders no longer have to pay fiskal? In Surabaya we still do...

I still paid Fiscal a couple of weeks back leaving Jakarta.

The permit can usually be in your passport within 3 days if you are in no hurry. It can be done quicker for emergencies Smile

Does anyone actually know their NPWP number? As they said starting January 1st next year if you have this number you wont have to pay the fiscal.

Fiskal is stll being charged for all KITAS holders.

I now have a NPWP number, as do all of my colleagues at this school. Previously I worked for two years at a NatPlus school whose school song included lots of chest-beating about honesty and integrity while, so it transpired, they weren't even paying the USD1200 foreigner tax let alone national income tax. Tax matters there were resolved by the traditional giving of gifts.

A friend of mine who works at one of the top international schools assures me that all of their FTs are registered for tax. I'e said it before and I'll say it again: ask YOUR boss for your NPWP number and see what the reaction is.
