|
|
I taught 3 years in China and am interested in
coming to Russia.
Please advise what I should do and
offer some advice as to whether it is
practical to work in small towns.
I understand Moscow is the most
expensive capital in the world.
With US$l300 a month, will it
be possible to survive? |

Not to be curt, but there are many, many thread topics almost identical to the one you just posted. Search those.
In short: $1300 won't get you very far in Russia these days. Inflation is out of control, and rents tend to be quite high. However, you can live frugally on that kind of money. Also, you can get your foot in the door for private students, where the real money is.
Best of luck! |

Thank you very much for your reply.
Actually, I am still looking around and found this kind of remuneration in
an advertisement. I am trying to 'test the water', so to speak.
When does it get cold in Russia, October?
Dave does not seem to have too much jobs offered in Russia in the
International Job page. I am still looking around.
I am keeping my fingers crossed not to be cheated,
as they always do in China. |

Go to employment then to vacancies or try Tefl.com
But be warned, firms like LL,BKC,EF are always advertising and we call them the 'Macdonalds'-i.e. high turnover, bad conditions and work for peanuts.
From October it can start to get cold in Russia but even there winters are very unstable due to global warning and climate change. |

Given that pay at Moscow Mickey D's starts at almost 20k r, and some make 60+, that's not even a joke. |

With an offer such as $1300 you will definately need the whole package, flight, visa , health cover and a flat. And get the work contract before you arrive.
I'ts very strange how these schools still manage to offer the same as four yeas ago, yet inflation has and still is rocketing in Russia. For example essential food just went up 20% yesterday.
Otherwise forget it , as you won't survive. However some seem to manage topping up their income with private lessons, which pays much more.
I can't suvive on 2,000 per month, and I have a rent free flat, and no travel or visa costs. |
