What a nightmare! If you were delayed 3 weeks, did you make it to start your job on time?

Wouldn't all this be easier if we just brought our original diplomas with us and showed them once we were in the country? Some places require that.

Also, what's the point of getting the birth certificate in there since a person can't get a passport without the birth certificate? So the passport proves that you are who you are. |

Yes, I was already there. It just made HR hound me every day for weeks. I can't recall if it delayed my residency or not, but I don't think so.

Yep! Or better yet, ask your academic institution to send it directly. Nothing says "official" like a diploma/transcript straight from the uni itself. I don't get the process at all. I understand wanting to be sure that someone is married, but the rest?

Don't get me started. You're being "logical" is what Veiled Sentiments told me. |

oops... we posted at the same time MM. So, I will just summarize.

I recommend leaving your 'logic' in a safe deposit box back home. It will help you avoid headaches or an ulcer.

				777.

Most of the schools here require the "hoops" to be jumped through. They need an official copy of all that stuff with the notarization, and verification stuff on it. I could be wrong, but I think it is the law.

It sounds like a massive amount of BS... and it is... but it is their party and they will make you cry if they want to.

You can bring all of those materials with you and have it done here.. but it is more expensive, slows down the visa (and subsequently any family member who you are sponsoring's visa).

The birth certificate is mainly for any minor children that are coming in, and I can understand the reasoning... kids passports (from the US) are only good for 5 years... and kids can change a vast deal in 5 years. I also think the birth certificate is required because they list the parents on the birth certificate which would be used to verify who the kids belong to for all benefits as well as proving the relationship to the sponsor. All of which are not mentioned on the passports. |

				Hey Mish...

I don't think we needed our birth certificates (my wife or myself). We needed the birth certificates for our kids, and our marriage license. I don't remember needing my birth certificate (which is from another state, and I don't recall getting an official copy of mine) |

				| I worked for SABIS and none of us had our residencies until almost December, so it wasn't a big deal that the papers were late. In fact, SABIS LOST a lot of people's attested copies by the end of the year and didn't return them, but that's a story for another thread. I ended up going across the border to Oman to get a new tourist stamp before I got my residency. It depends on your employer and if they're on their A game or not. |

That's strange. It was on my employer's list. |
