I've been sent a document to sign.
It states that I will be shown and required to sign the *full contract* when I reach the University!
The document they've sent me deals with what's required *very* briefly.
I have 44 working hours per week.
NO overtime.
Is this anything to worry about! |

Griff-Jones- Most Unis will say only give you the full contract upon arrival but most of the time it will be exactly what they told you in the general offer. Standard Saudi practise-sound alarming but is generally not a problem.
Even Uni's will tell you 18 hours teaching and 1 office hour a day will still have you sign a standard contract of a 40 hour week etc.
That's if it is a government uni but as for the new private colleges then I couldn't say. |

Unless you are a labourer from a 3rd world country, in which case on arrival your salary is slashed by half, working hours doubled, vacation time halved, living quarters halved, etc. And that's also standard Saudi practice. (if you are a 3rd world labourer) |

Except that those responsible for this are not in Saudi but 'agents' in the same country as the worker. Even though the air fare and visa expenses are paid by the employer the third world laborer is bamboozled into giving up around a years' salary in order to get the job. In order to make that fiddle easier he is routinely promised double the real salary. Of course, having mortgaged his or his family's land to raise that money he is not in a position to refuse to sign the contract. |

I would ask them what they mean by '44 working hours per week' as I have never seen anything like this in any of my contracts in KSA.

This is a Uni right? As I mentioned most government Uni's give you a standard contract that is generic for much of the Uni regardless of position. Obviously the main details are specific such as base salary etc but most other things are left to the department you would be working in to finalise with you.
I think a lot of time would be saved if the OP would keep up to date with the thread and let us know if he is ok or needs more information! |

In my experience, employers in KSA will not negotiate the terms on the contract. Your choice is to sign or not to sign. If you want to go to this job in KSA - sign. |

I negotiated my contract. There were two changes made before I signed.
You just have to know where to tickle the camel.

Just don't "tickle" in the wrong place or at the wrong time or the camel may
depart in haste. |

Brasscat is of course a special case, being a high-ranking Thetan. Mere mortals like you and I will have difficulties in negotiating individual tailor-made contracts. |
