Thanks for the tips. Sharter, you're hilarious! Ha ha. The comedy is highly welcomed. Funny, I played soccer for years. Great sport to keep in shape.
I'm gonna look into the CELTA. I can say that at this point, the masters is going to be nothing more than another piece of wallpaper. The course work is mostly theory. Fortunately, I have looked a quite a few lesson plans (some good and bad) and have already been planning for the classroom. It's good to have an idea of what to expect before you get your passport stamped as to what you're in for when you arrive - so the comments about the students, etc are appreciated. Scottie/sharter and the rest of the folks out there . . . thanks a million.
As far as partying is concerned, I'm over the whole deal - for the most part. I do enjoy going out for some beers, but I work pretty hard. Not to say I am a social reject, but I have bigger fish to fry. There is a time and place for everything, and a few beers from time to time fits into that mind-set.
So, regarding this CELTA . . . can I do a course in Poland? Should I just do one in my spare time between the end of grad school and my trip to Europe? I'll have roughly, well - I'll be done in May of 09' and I hear schools start up around September 1st? That's another question I have. Any how, not to digress but perhaps I should do the CELTA when I finish grad school in the States. How much does that cost?
Gotta run.

I did my CELTA in Warsaw because evn with the airfare, apartment rental duringthe course, and tuition, it was cheaper than in the US. With the dollar so low these that might still be the case.
I knew I wanted to live and work in Poland before doing the CELTA and doing it here gave me an opportunity to do some networking. In fact, I got a job with the same school. Others here have had similar experiences.
I think Bell in Warsaw and IH in Krakow offer CELTA. It doesn't matter where you do because you'll get the same certificate from everybody. Just get it.
My contract begins on 22 September and classes will start about a week later. Most schools start in late September or early October.
Keep in mind my earlier comments about residency for non EU citizens and plan accordingly. |
