This is my first year here and no question about it. The best place to eat is Dubai. I can't believe how many good restaurants there are. Take your pick from el cheapo Indian fare which costs 10 dirhams or less to hundreds of dirhams at ritzy clubs. Personally, I prefer eating in the malls as there are loads of places to choose from. Something to suit every budget. My favo food is Thai.

I have probably eaten in more restaurants in Jeddah than any other person on here who might have lived/lives in Jeddah.

If anybody needs to know good places to eat in Jeddah (and which ones to avoid), they should hit me up.

We don't eat fast food... maybe once a month or so. Lots of fresh fruit, veggies, whole grains, fish, lentils, beans, etc., all cooked from scratch.

And once a week or so, eat out at some nice place (nice does not necessarily mean expensive).

And BTW, it is Al Tazaj, not Tajaz! Very Happy

That reminds me, I haven't eaten there for over 2 years now... I should eat there in the near future. But Al-Baik, no way, that stuff is nasty. Yuck. I will see the owner of that place in hell!

Forgot 2 more good places:

Pearl's Cafe (very mature place, with artwork by local artists on the walls, and is for sale, as well as a small library, and some live music shows!)

Black Rose (interior is 90% black/very dark, with some amazing Euro-Gothic chanting music playing in the background)

Oh the horrors... art and chanting... where are the mutawwas???!!! Shocked

Ahhh...Al Baik! I guess that reveals my white-trash upbringing! I'll never forget Al-Baik...maybe their name, but never the taste of that spicy, spicy chicken! I especially liked their shrimps selections...of course, it's been a while since I've been there ,so things may have changed dramatically!

Not as good as Dammam. Best place is Jiddah. Some superb eateries.

This is narrowing it considerably. If one eats no meat (but does eat fish) where is the best VALUE (not the best food, that's something different)?

To make a comparison to my travels in non-Western parts of Asia, I would say coastal India, Vietnam and Burma are good value. Actually Singapore too - not cheap but modest considering cost of living there. Great veg Indian restos in Little India, even fast food.

My favorite restaurant in Bangkok is Egyptian, not so far from Nana Plaza. And the falafel at the Palestinian shop beside the more popular Israeli one in Khao Sarn Road is good.

In Cambodia the best meal I ever had was Iraqi - white fish with dill, mint, yoghurt etc.

Hey, we forgot about Israel! One of my best regular restaurants in Canada was a superb salad spectacle run by Yemeni Jews in Vancouver (since closed)

I too would like to know whether Lebanon or Cairo have the best fish and salad. The only thing that keeps me out of getting a job in the center of the cyclone in the Mid East is the prospect of lamb, chicken and rice. I don't eat rice or meat. Even bread is too high carb. Brain food is fish and veggies. Anyone have experience in coastal areas of North Africa and Mid-East?

Kuwait has several great places for fish: stuffed fish, Chinese and Sushi, and lovely shrimp. Come on it's the Gulf, but the Kuwaiti style stuffed black grilled fish is very nice.

Caesar's - Abu Baker Street, Kuwait. Good Chinese food.

Khyber Restaurant near the Bebehani Villas.

Mughal Darbar, Shara Fahd Al Salem - good curries and masalas.
