Given that Ramadan coincides with start of the Academic Year in September, everything will take that much longer. Shocked Shocked

My visa took 6 weeks from the time my docs were sent off to my employer. This was all done outside of Oman.

I'm hoping the residence card won't be too long in coming after arrival 'cuz of Ramadan. The employer said 3 days, then 10 days after that for wife's visa. Anyone care to comment if these are accurate estimates? (Sorry to hijack thread...)

You can bring in your wife on a tourist visa and change it later to residence while in oman. September will be a very busy month for visa processes in oman, that's why, it may take longer than usual.
In ramadan, government offices work only between 7 and 12 theoretically, and in practice, they hardly work, expect delays. Once, you are in oman, resident cards should be issued in 30 days (as laws dictate).

thanx for the info windstar, apparently if your spouse is from a country not on List 1 or 2 then the Oman embassy (in my case Korea) won't issue a tourist visa to a spouse so we will follow the 'recommended' procedure of getting it after my arrival. Not much to be done if it's all slowed down by Ramadan... Confused

However I am not English teacher, I am interested in relocating to Oman.
I was informed by my future employer 7 weeks ago that they had started to deal with my work permit.
2 weeks ago I sent them email and they didn't reply. I am wondering if they are serious. 2 months ago it seemed that they want to employ me as soon as possible.
Is it possible that after 2 months they will change their mind?

Anything is possible. I would call them if they won't answer your email.

My first work visa/residence card took about 9 weeks to process, the second and third less than 4 weeks. It had something to do with the daily fines attached to the sponsor for expired work/residence visas. There is a profit incentive for quick renewal of expired visas while the 'slower acquistion' of first time visas does not seem to have the same imperative.

I can recall my panic on the slow acquiry of the first visa when I was told, 'Don't worry about it", since I had visions of being rounded up and detained/exported for illegally working on an expired tourist visa. The yearly cleansing process had begun and road checks/document checks were in full swing. It all worked out but as Duffy et al say its takes time.

Oh yes Ramadan! Like trying to get all personal business done at 15:30 on December 24. Ah, 'The Life'. Be sure to enjoy the 'Iftars'.

I think we have two different questions running now. I thing the OP was asking about his work visa after arrival.

And leftorka is asking about his visa to come to Oman.

Both of them tend to depend on the efficiency of your employer.

Which countries are on LIst 1 or 2? I'm from Ukraine, so it means my husband cannot come with me at the same time?

All the info available is on the following link:

Probably worth a thorough read.
