| I know that Korean men hate seeing Korean women with white guys, but I was never aware of an aversion to white guys with other Asian women. Maybe they sometimes just assume she's Korean. |
I doubt that Koreans care if a white man is with a Filipino. But one Taiwanese woman told me she lived in Korea with her white husband and someone threw stones at them even though she was not Korean. |
It may be that they only care if they think the girl is Korean (and many Japanese and Chinese can pass for Korean, and vice versa).
This exact thing happened to a friend of mine (white guy) walking down the sidewalk with his Chinese girlfriend in Dalian, China. Stones! Unbelieveable.
I've also heard of Chinese police barging into hotel rooms occupied by a white guy and an Asian girl - even if it turns out that the Asian girl is Japanese or whatever. (If she were Chinese, she could be busted for "prostitution", even if she were no such thing, and shipped off to some "re-education camp" or whatever. At least, I heard this kind of thing happened in the 80's, maybe early 90's.... don't know if it still happens, but I bet it does.
When I was there in '94 (in Shenzhen) with my Chinese-American girlfriend (travelling on her Chinese passport, but she also had a US greencard), a 3-star hotel wouldn't let us room together without a marriage license. But the 5-star hotel across the street said "no problem".
In 1998, in Beijing, a friend of mine wasn't allowed to bring a Chinese girl up to his 5-star hotel room - some hotel guard wouldn't even let them into the elevator. At another hotel (3- or 4-star), a friend and I were talking to this same guy and his Chinese girlfriend in the hallway outside his room, when some big, tough-looking middle-aged Chinese guy (plain-clothes cop?) noticed us, and started toward us as if he had "caught us" and was going to bust us - we got the message quick and headed for the elevator to leave, and he let us go. Bizarre, and disturbing. |

Actually I read about this in the book Opening Up by James Farrer. |
