Since Ping Pong is an olympic sport, maybe we could get really good at lawn bowling, darts, and frisbee too. Then, we could compete at the international level in those sports.

There is lawn bowling in the Commonwealth Games... the Japanese equivalent would probably be gateball though.

Actually I think every country wishes some cultural activities were Olympic sports.

MMA in the Olympics would be cool, but I think it is a tad bit brutal for most people's tastes. Even though they do have Judo, boxing, wrestling, and Taekwondo, it just isn't the same.

Or maybe if they added Sumo to the Olympics some of the younger Japanese might get excited about their national sport again.

I'm reviving this!!!! Found it while searching around.

"Am I too old to buy these Hello Kitty chopsticks?"

"Hey, you know, I've been thinking about the way we run things around here, and I'd like to propose some changes..."

"You know, there are no cars coming, maybe we should just cross..."

(Serving a customer buying 5 items) "You know, you could just put them all in one bag. There's no need for me to individually wrap them.. think of the environment!"

Love this thread!

a) "You know...being able to use chopsticks properly is really no great feat"

b) "Say, your Japanese isn't all that good..."

c) "Oh, the cherry blossoms aren't all that pretty this year"

I've never had b) said to me before- but I'm sure many Japanese have thought it. Laughing

"Say, ALT-san, you had ONE class today - in first period - and you clearly have no lesson preparation to do. Why don't you go home on the 4pm bus instead of waiting until the next but at 5pm? SURE your contract says until 4.10pm, but you might as well leave early".... wait, just me?

"Perhaps we should talk more quietly, the foreigner that we're talking about might be able to understand Japanese..."

Yes, we'd love to hear and implement your ideas about our curriculum. After all, you're a college-educated native speaker with several years experience teaching here in Japan.

You've been here seven years and read hiragana? I'm rather unimpressed.

You don't look like any Causasian celebrity I know of.
