True, but as an Aerospace Engineer, when I see a pilot praying, I wonder about the airplane.

When flying I know what all those mechanical noises mean.

Well, it seems the miserable brasscat did not know that the pilot in his prayer was asking GOD to protect the passengers during their travel, and to wish them safe return to their families.
Anyway, what you hear in the intercom is a recorded prayer for travel, and not a pilot praying in his seat!

So, my question to brasscat, who is more dangerous a drunk pilot or a pilot who start his journey with a prayer?

Well, as a Mathematician, I know for sure that a pilot can set his airplane in an automatic pilot mode and can go sleep or go to the toilet without any problem! In addition, the co-pilot can manage things while the pilot is in the toilet! Laughing

I have seen my share of mechanical failures in aircraft. Auto pilot is ok as long as the plane is ok.

Walked away from one airline crash in my past. No plans for a repeat.

Ask the folks at Spanair about autopilot and travel prayers. Just give me good engines and a confident crew.

True believer, you can have/ Good mechanics I prefer.

In Sri Lanka you pray and leave a small offering at the shrine (Hindu, Buddhist, Catholic or even Sufi) before you travel, and again when you return successfully. There are small shrines all over the place; my best friend's mother built one in her front garden last year.

The plane you fly on was built by the lowest bidders for every part.

There is something to be said for: "A wing and a prayer".
