Hi please help.
Im moving to Dubai in Jan 2009, I dont have a teaching position yet but hoping to have a school leader position at one of the above.

Any advice?
Have issues with goverment AL Ghad schools improved?
Are they a more stable project?

What about GEMS schools? Fair places ? Good environment to work in?

Thanks, any information appreciated.

You only need do a search on 'Madares Al Ghad' on this site to find out what that project is like! Those who care about the fortunes of others have taken the time to post here repeatedly.

Yes thank you I have looked up comments - I wasnt sure if situation had changed since 'big push' in Sept 2007 but maybe not.

Strangely I had an telephone interview recently and although I am headteacher with NPQH the team said that I cannot be a school leader as I didnt have an MA. Different rules everywhere I suppose!

Would it be easier for me to arrive in UAE and then find work?

houghers,
You'd probably not wish upon yourself a position offered to walk ins, here or anywhere in this region. It would no doubt be a school with a high turn over--and desperately seeking a warm body. At the very least, set up some interviews, come here, do a recky, go home and consider any offers.

Yes I suppose you are right. Annoying though, I have been teaching for over 12 years - in leadership for over 6years. ( Primary)
My husband has a job and we are coming over in Dec anyway so I will probably just look when I arrive.

Dont want to change the world or anything but I would like a decent environment and a bit of a laugh!!

Why don't you use your time to see if you can get employment with the other PPP organizations, in the meantime? I'd have to agree with kiefer regarding the 'type' of school you'd end up in if you're a walk-in. Have you considered the ELS Centres? They pay well, are good to work for and would suit your situation, if you're interested. They're also training teachers, so you'd actually be getting somewhat of a 'soft-landing' regarding work with the PPP organizations.

No news is usually good news when it comes to postings, but does anyone know anything about GEMS in the PPP? SABIS and CfBT seem to have gotten most of the heat thus far.

In spite of comments re:MAG I am interested in working across schools ( PPP) and have applied for a school team leader as well as a team mentor job. I don't have an agenda so hope that if successful at School team leader level I can support all colleagues and not impose ridiculous out of date teaching ways on staff, like some have mentioned.

It is much easier I imagine to select path once in UAE. Like everything it comes down to timing.

I would however still be interested in views on GEMS
Cheers

I would also be interested in hearing about GEMS. Is it better and more stable than Madares Al Ghad? Any input would be appreciated.

As far as I know, GEMS is a for-profit school system.

Just think "business model" and you'll be okay.

I had some friends that sent their kids to GEMS schools ---- they didn't complain too much.

Don't bank on it... especially for the sort of senior post you are interested in make sure you apply in advance.
