One post a week in the Russia folder? Most posts here now concerning CIS countries and not the RF?

My my my, how times have changed. Five years ago this folder was a beehive of activity. Everybody was on the road to Russia. Adventure, opportunity, pent up Russophiles, wanderers.

All gone now. Russia has closed the doors. This folder is musty and dormant. It's really quite sad isn't it?

I'm just sayin'...... Sad

You want activity? Sign up for the Korean board - half the members, but twice the posts. Personally, I'd rather read the one useful post per week, rather than 50 or more posts that are so poorly written it causes me to wonder how they can call themselves English teachers, about topics so petty it causes me to wonder if they're still wearing diapers.

Yeah, I guess the good ole' days are gone, but herein is a stored wealth of useful information silently awaiting the fool (that would be me) wanting to explore new dimensions in his life.

Maybe one day; maybe soon. In the mean time, thanks in advance for the questions I will ask.

Yeah, looks like the tide is out on Russia at the moment. Between Georgia and the general tightening up on visas and work permits, it seems a bit grim over there.

Russias ruling elite have the same attitude as always, only the red flags and communist propaganda have gone!Where will the 'grizzly bear' stomp next?Probably Crimea, where Moscow has already apparently secretly issued passports to people of Russian origin....
At least we could make some money with our one-year multiple-entry visas before, while now you get three months maximum, followed by three months away.
The only people who go to Russia to teach now are probably those studying the language and history etc. or masochists who take the 'Mac' jobs for a few weeks or months.....
But who cares anyway-there are plenty of other countries to go and teach in!It's their loss not ours...

I'm still here Smile Are there any others still here who were here this same time last year? Where are all those regular members I saw last year, that were here the year before? Have you all gone?

But I'll give you a clue. During Summer months, especially August TEFL is dead in Russia. Business is lousy in the Summer months.

However, if this forum doesn't liven up by mid September, then there will be something seriously wrong.

We will get the moans and groans from teachers by January 2009 Smile

How on earth can I live on this expensive city Smile I have to share a grubby little flat an hour away from where I work Smile OR the big one " Where's my washing machine and satelite telly Smile

Expat.ru is still busy with their regulars. Problem is that they are still discussing Georgia and the Olympics rather than work in Russia.
Although visa and work permits is discussed as a big problem.

Also just wondering, has our TNK-BP director got his work visa for Russia yet, or does he continue to be forced into controlling his company from the UK.

With the way things are going there,I'd have your tickets and passports ready for a quick flip abroad in case Putin makes any more stupid moves!
I'm sure you will find plenty of Russians in other countries too so you will have no problem carrying on your business with their kids and probably make more money too without all the corruption etc!

Cheers for now and all the best!

Correct. Riga is over 40% Russian and here you don't have the hassle of Russian bureaucracy as well as being in the EU and with better flight connections and a much cheaper cost of living than Moscow.

What makes you think I need Russian children, when we have the whole world to teach English.

We have plans to do the same in the UK in the future, perhaps next year all going well. Most certainly not employed, as even in the UK income is ripoff.

I'm inclined to think that Maruss has pretty much summed up the situation.

Maruss saves the day again Bels. What is going on with this forum? Where has everyone gone? Bels, I have never received a response from you on these apostiled requirements in RU Smile I mean you answered in the negative, but from what I gather, FMS says you must have them, but on the other hand, its not a residency offer, its a consultant job, so why the need to have an apostile on all these docs? Anyway, its tough going on the teaching front in RU.

Bels, why are you there Smile

Maruss, how is life?

What's going on with this forum -- how about what's going on with Russia?

Members of the media are being murdered. War with Georgia. Strong rhetoric coming from the Kremlin and Medvedev's five (somewhat frightening) principles that will now guide foreign policy.

How do you guys living there feel about this stuff, or is it just business as usual in Russia?

Riga is a great city, but I was there just last month and I certainly didn't find it cheaper than Moscow.

Care to give some examples?

Tho only document you need apostiled (or in British language legalised)
is the police check. Of course all English language documents must be translated.

I can't think of anything else you would need apostiled, excep if you get married here, you must have any divorce papers and birth certificate apostiled.

Documents needing to be apostiled was not enforced by Russia, it was due to the Hague convention.

Sorry about missing a response, as I normally try to answer all posts.

Anyway! I wanna go home now!! We'e peeved off with this endless redtape and trying to make an honest self employed living here. And my Russian family are just as keen to join me.

So we are going back to The White Cliffs of Dover

So bye Bye another expat by June 2009.
