Glenski, here's a question that might semi-relate to this thread: When you get Permanent Resident status, do you have to be in Japan for a certain amount of time each year or over a set period of time?
I say that because I'm planning to go back to my home country sometime in the future, but am open to the idea of returning to Japan after a few years. Having permanent residency would be a beautiful thing. |

Khyron,
Yes, there are guidelines about how long one must have been in Japan in order to get PR. They differ for single people vs. people married to Japanese.
Here are the guidelines. Read them carefully. Remember, there are always exceptions, but one must not count on them.

One exception is taikibansei's experience. He was here a while, I believe he married a Japanese, worked here longer, returned to his home country, and in the first year upon his return got PR. |
