I will shortly be flying out to Kuwait to start work. In order to avoid excess baggage charges I have been advised to send additional items by post.

To send a parcel weighing 3 kg by courier is fast but prohibitively expensive. How long does it take to send a parcel to Kuwait in the normal post and how secure is it

they may be lost
if not,
they will be openned in front of you at the big po in kaifan - you will receive notice by way of a card
your school's mandoob may not check the po daily - send word out that a parcel is due
1-2 months i'd wager
you should have asked me for advice beforehand
read the next thread on what to do in kuwait - mailing advice

send it registered and keep the recipt number
address it to your school's mandoob - not yourself or you'll have to lose a half day of school for the checking procedure
this is countraversial advice - really depends on your school
i didn't you didn't send it
no dvds or videos or pills/medicines no liquids

Another idea is waiting to setting up an Aramex account once you are there and having it shipped after you. I used their services many times and they were fast (1 week or so) and reasonably priced. The name of the service is Shop & Ship. Google Aramex for more details.

Hi there,

Kuwait hasnt quite got to grips with the concept of post let alone the fact that you pay x amount of money to receive your post by a certain date. If your belongings are important enough for you to bring with you to kuwait you have 4 choices:

1. Post it by normal post to kuwait and the chances are you'll never see it again.

2. Post it by aramex, fedex etc and pay a large amount of money to receive a SMALL amount of goods.

3. Pay the excess lugguage and get it air- freighted with you.

4. Get it shipped to Kuwait by a shipping company. This is by no- means pain- free and also depends on how long you will be there for as it will probably take a while to get there (2-4 months) depending on where you are coming from, customs etc.

If it's only three kilos pay excess baggage.

There are still postboxes in Kuwait. Rumour has it they haven't been emptied since the first Gulf war.

I suspect Mr. Jones was writing about postboxes where mail is deposited to be sent somewhere rather than post office boxes where mail can be picked up.
Regards,
John
