Hi

I'm applying to work in the Middle East and the schools ask for a passport-sized photograph (or two). Then, they ask that the application/CV/photographs/etc be emailed or faxed.

My questions:

For what are these photographs used?
Is it best to send them as an attachment in an email or to fax them separately?
Why passport-sized? I'm very curious...

Any help will be much appreciated.
Thanks!

They want to see if you have two heads, tatoos or look in any way 'unsuitable'. No punks required. No one with body piercings or bones through the nose.

Between jobs a few years ago I worked with an agent in Seoul. An applicant had a good CV and was willing to fly over ASAP. Then his photo arrived and he was rather dark skinned. The following conversation started around the owner;s computer between him and his sidekick.

-Do you think he is black?
-I'm not sure he sort of looks Middle Eastern.
-Hmm Spanish Do you think we can tell the school he is Spanish??
-Yeh that would be...Hey Lagerlout (not my real name) come here.
-Does he look Spanish to you???

For the record he was of Lebanese descent and (I think) changed his mind about going overseas.

Anyway welcome to the enlightened world of EFL.

I think that they want you to look foreign. I've got a nose ring and it hasn't been a problem here in China. However, one of the first things I was told by my boss it that I would be more welcome if I dyed my hair yellow. She said that I look too Chinese. WHich by the way, I'm not, I'm of 100% eastern and western european descent.

Dear ChadwickKent,
Are you one of the (in)famous "hanging chads" that figured so prominently in the 2000 election in Florida?
